Over at Google, they are cleaning up an office and looking for a substitute. Here is the story:
Google announced it's removing its global lead on diversity strategy and research from his post after it was discovered he'd made antisemitic comments in a past blog post.
Kamau Bobb will be reassigned to a STEM research role after The Washington Free Beacon uncovered a 2007 blog post by Bobb titled "If I were a Jew."
"If I were a Jew I would be concerned about my insatiable appetite for war and killing in defense of myself," he wrote in the now-deleted post.
"If I were a Jew today, my sensibilities would be tormented. I would find it increasingly difficult to reconcile the long cycles of oppression that Jewish people have endured and the insatiable appetite for vengeful violence that Israel, my homeland, has now acquired."
Yes, I guess that he had to go after that discovery. Actually, he's being reassigned.
My question is this: Did Google give money to Black Lives Matter or Democrats? It sounds to me that Mr. Bobb would fit in right with what BLM or AOC say about the Middle East. Mike Gonzales recently posted this about BLM:
The main BLM group, the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, supports a primary objective of Hamas: the annihilation of the Jewish state.
Should Google demand that those funds be returned? Maybe Israeli lives don't matter.
Honestly, I don't think that people should be fired for what they posted in 2007. Accept the apology and move on, but it's Google that should explain why it supports groups that apparently don’t think that Israeli lives matter.

Angry Democrats in Texas

You probably heard about the Democrats walking out over the weekend. Yes, they are furious that the legislature passed a voting bill that they don't like, or more specifically did not have the votes to stop. Like a game on rain delay, the legislature will reopen soon and the bill will pass.
The new bill simply reconfirms how we vote in Texas. Nevertheless, you would think that Governor Greg Abbott is Fidel Castro if you listen to the Democrats. Some of us have not seen so much talk about vote suppression since the last time that the Democrats threw a fit about another law.
Why are the Democrats so angry? The answer is message and voter turnout.
Back on election day 2020, the Democrats were convinced that it was their year. After all, didn't Beto O'Rourke break the ice when he got 48% against Senator Cruz. On the Friday before the election, a poll had Biden up and Senator John Cornyn in a tie. As you know, President Trump carried Texas and Senator Cornyn had a landslide reelection. Wonder if anyone asked for a refund from that pollster?
It was going to be their year, until they counted the votes. Then suddenly it was good old Red Texas all over again. The Democrats went 0-10 in congressional districts despite putting lots of resources and TV ads tying every candidate to President Trump. In the end, the TV ads tying Democrats to "defund the police" turned out to be more persuasive.
Just recently, a special election for the U.S. Congress was another disappointment. The final vote will be between two Republicans. To be fair, it is a district that the GOP should win but the Democrat turnout was bad -- thus no Democrat will be on the ballot. Trust me, the Democrats did not see this coming.
So what's going on?
First, the Democrats are finding out that a growing Hispanic population does not necessarily mean more Democrats elected. President Trump did well in South Texas in large part because Hispanics like a strong economy and do not believe that the border should be open. After all, most of those Hispanics were born here or respected the law to come in. They don't understand why other people cannot do the same thing.
Second, the Democrats have a San Francisco message that does not play well in Texas. From "abortion on demand" to gun control, the Democrat message is not turning on voters. The abortion issue ('the new heartbeat law") will be a problem for Democrats with Hispanic women. As a Hispanic lady said to me: "How can you abort a heart beating?" My guess is that most Hispanic women agree with that.
So what do you do when your voters don't turn out or your jingle doesn't get clicks? You blame the other side for "suppressing" the vote. Honestly, the Democrats would be better off with a message adjustment.

And now Peru and Chile
A couple of our South American neighbors shared some bad COVID news over the weekend.
In Peru, the COVID death figures were recalculated up, according to news reports:
Peru on Monday more than doubled its official coronavirus death toll, becoming the country with the highest Covid-19 mortality per capita anywhere in the world.
The government said it had raised the count from 69,342 to 180,764 on the advice of a panel of health experts, which found there had been an undercount.
With the adjustment, Peru now has the highest coronavirus mortality per capita of any country, with 5,484 deaths per million inhabitants, according to an AFP count.
The country of about 33 million people previously ranked 13th in the world with 2,103 deaths per million, according to AFP's data.
For some perspective, Peru and the state of Texas have roughly the same population. Texas has 51,000 deaths and Peru 180,000!
My Peruvian friends believe that the problem is an overwhelmed hospital system in Lima, the capital, and rural areas where the virus spread out of control.
Over in Chile, the news is more depressing. It appears that the Chinese vaccine did not work:
Across Chile—which has mounted one of the world’s most rapid vaccination campaigns using the vaccine made by Chinese drugmaker Sinovac Biotech Ltd.—health authorities are scrambling to deal with a surge in new infections and deaths.
More than 7.6 million people, half of Chile’s adult population, have already received at least one vaccine dose, most made by the Chinese drugmaker, making the country a real-world testing ground for a vaccine that Beijing is supplying to countries across the developing world.
The problem, public-health officials say, was that people in general overestimated the effectiveness of the vaccine after only one of the two recommended doses and moved to ease up on pandemic-control restrictions too soon.
What other country got the Chinese vaccine? I hear that Brazil did but has now switched to other versions.
All over the world, we see challenges with COVID, from India to now Peru and Chile. At the same time, we see the US doing better and moving back to normal as much as possible. It confirms how effective President Trump was in getting the vaccines out and how great our health care system is.
