The 'I' word that will bite your budget
Are you ready for a summer of inflation? I am not but it may be coming anyway. This is from Fox News:
A survey from the University of Michigan on Friday showed consumers' one-year inflation expectations shot up to 4.6% in May from 3.4% in April.
Prices are expected to keep rising for much of the summer, pushed up by, among other things, bottlenecks crimping supply of both materials and labor, and surging consumer demand.
Reuters put together a "Memorial Day Weekend price index" to capture the rising cost of an imaginary basket of things and indulgences redolent of the summer's first long weekend, which this year is May 29-31.
The index, comprised largely of leisure expenses and excluding the cost of housing and doctor's visits among other mundane items, rose about 4.3%, faster than the overall consumer price index.
Wow. Wonder if anyone in the media will dare compare "the misery index" under President Trump and President Biden. As you may remember, it was the sum of the unemployment and inflation rates. I believe that then candidate Governor Jimmy Carter used it to beat up President Gerald Ford in 1976. In the boomerang of boomerangs, it came back to bite now President Carter against candidate Ronald Reagan in 1980.
Speaking of biting the family budget, I learned yesterday that it took $43 to fill up our car! It was around $30 when the Orange Man left for Florida. Anyway, the gas tank was more than a nice lunch at an Italian eatery.
What makes gasoline prices so politically difficult? Everybody pays at the pump, specially the middle class. In other words, the media cannot protect Biden because it hits your wallet every time you go to the service station.
In contrast, the media can stop talking about the border. It can't over gasoline prices because everybody drives a car and some do so for business.
So the "I" word is here and I don't mean impeachment or investigation of January 6th.

I guess that Caitlyn Jenner is the wrong type of transgender

It was bound to happen. In other words, the left would tell us that Caitlyn is a Republican and can not be a transgender or something like that. This is from news reports:
Though Caitlyn Jenner would be the first transgender governor if elected to lead California, she’s been largely rejected by the transgender community, who see her Republican-leaning views as coming from a place of privilege.
"She’s completely detached," said Bamby Salcedo, president of the TransLatin@ Coalition, an advocacy group. "All this truly is about her. It’s not about the issues, not about the people."
Christine Hallquist, the first transgender woman to be a Democratic nominee for governor when she ran in 2018, told the San Francisco ChronicleJenner doesn’t grasp the challenges faced by trans people.
I guess Caitlyn wants to control the border and that puts her out of touch with the challenges facing trans people.
What we see here is that I've experienced being a conservative Hispanic. In many instances, liberals have accused me of being out of touch because I support legal immigration. I recall one time debating a liberal and he said that I should support "our people" and defend open borders. I asked what "people" he was talking about, since all of my real "people" came here legally. We didn't get too far after that.
Frankly, I find Caitlyn Jenner repulsive. He is a man dressed up as a woman. I don't care that I agree with his or her political views but the whole issue of transgenderism is repulsive and unnatural. Nevertheless, we are seeing once again that transgenders are liberals first and transgenders second.

Go north and get your 'vacuna'
Two months ago, a good friend and wife flew to Dallas from Mexico City. We were happy to see them but surprised as well because of COVID.
So I asked him: "What brought you to Dallas"?
He winked and confirmed what I suspected: "La vacuna" or the vaccine. He also showed me his next ticket or the next trip to Dallas for "Vacuna numero dos."
I didn't press my friend for details but this article confirmed what we now called "vaccine tourism". This is from Mexico New Daily:
The Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV) has also seen a spike in business from vaccine tourism. In the past two weeks, it has sold 120,000 travel packages for Mexicans seeking to be vaccinated, Milenio reported.
At 20,000 pesos (US $1,000), the packages are not within the reach of every Mexican but for those who can afford it, it has proved to be an attractive option. The packages include flights, hotels, transportation and vaccine registration, mainly for destinations in Texas, Arizona or Miami, Florida.
It's not cheap but it comes in handy if your employer is paying for the business trip. Just pay for your wife's airline ticket, share the hotel room and get "la vacuna." In my friend's case, his wife travels as his secretary so the employer paid for both of their tickets.
Why is this happening? Mexico and Canada are behind the U.S. on vaccinations.
The best part of the story is that my friend said that he was wrong about President Trump. In other words, he confirmed that President Trump did a great job with the vaccines and the management of the COVID crisis.
Well, my friend is right.
