Milt Pappas was born on this day in 1939. He died in 2016 at the age of 76.
Pappas will always be remembered as the man traded for Frank Robinson. It turned out to be a great trade for the Orioles with Robinson leading the team to 4 of the next 6 World Series.
It wasn't so good for Pappas. He won 110 games over 8 years in Baltimore. He went 99-90 in Cincinnati, Chicago and Atlanta. In all fairness to Pappas, he went from a great team in Baltimore to teams that never competed for the pennant. His numbers after Baltimore have to been seen in that context.
Pappas finished his career with 209 wins and a no-hitter in 1972.
