We hear calls for more "gun control". However, new gun laws is just a quick fix that doesn't address the root cause of the problems.
We have a cultural decay combined with a lack of seriousness about mental health.
First, what was this young man doing totally unsupervised? It was obvious that he was a troubled young man with the potential for some very bad consequences. Why wasn't this young man under some kind of supervision?
See this from John Fund: "A lengthy study by Mother Jones magazine found that at least 38 of the 61 mass shooters in the past three decades “displayed signs of mental health problems prior to the killings.” New York Times columnist David Brooks and Cornell Law School professor William Jacobson have both suggested that the ACLU-inspired laws that make it so difficult to intervene and identify potentially dangerous people should be loosened.
“Will we address mental-health and educational-privacy laws, which instill fear of legal liability for reporting potentially violent mentally ill people to law enforcement?” asks Professor Jacobson.
“I doubt it.”
Second, why doesn't Pres BO call on his supporters in Hollywood to clean up movies? Have you seen the way that Hollywood glamorizes violence? Have we not desensitized our nation from violence with video games and movies that show gratuitous violence?
Third, what about abortion? We abort 1,000,000 lives every year because they are not convenient. Doesn't that have an impact on our culture too?
We already have gun laws. It would be nice if we would talk about something beyond the quick fix of gun control. It would be nice if the left would address the root problems, from a culture of death (abortion) and a society where too many boys are growing up without fathers.
