President Obama was in Hollywood this week engaging in those “distraction tactics” that he is so good at. He accused the GOP of having “filibustered about 500 pieces of legislation that would help the middle class….
Frankly, has this US Senate under Majority Leader Reid voted 500 times to do anything? Voting on legislation is one thing that this US Senate has not done much of, filibuster or whatever else.
Thankfully, Glenn Kessler called him on it:
“On just about every level, this claim is ridiculous. We realize that Senate rules are complex and difficult to understand, but the president did serve in the Senate and should be familiar with its terms and procedures. Looking at the numbers, he might have been able to make a case that Republicans have blocked about 50 bills that he had wanted passed, such as an increase in the minimum wage. But instead he inflated the numbers to such an extent that he even included votes in which he, as senator, supported a filibuster.”Get ready, because there is more of this coming, whether he gets “Pinocchios” or not.
President Obama knows that he is in trouble.
The White House objective is to limit the losses in the US Senate and keep a majority, even a bare 50-50 with VP Biden breaking the tie. They can only “limit their losses by getting their base excited about something, whether it’s climate change, class warfare, or even racism.
