Obama always Knew that the Executive Order Wouldn't Fly

(My new American Thinker post)

Tuesday a federal judge in Texas stopped President Obama's executive order on immigration.

I will leave the constitutional arguments to our wiser AT colleagues.

I will just say that the judge's thoughtful opinion makes a lot of sense to me, or people like me who understand that we don't live in Cuba or Venezuela where presidents write laws or go around the legislative branch.

Color me a cynic, but I think that President Obama always knew that a federal judge would eventually stop his executive overreach, a.k.a. as the immigration executive order. He always saw this as a 4th down "Hail Mary"!

Why do I feel that way?

1) Look at his reaction. He is now saying that we have the law on our side. This is a rather remarkable statement from a man who told us for years that he didn't have the authority to do this. Can he show us the legal opinion that changed his mind? Did AG Holder write such an opinion for him? I think that we deserve to see it.

2) Look at the timing of the executive order. President Obama did not issue this order before the election. He did not force Democrats to vote "yes or no" on a new version of the Dream Act.  Maybe President Obama remembers that a Democrat Senate with 59 votes could not come up with the 60 votes to push The Dream Act to the floor in 2010!

3) President Obama was pandering with the order. He did it for the most cynical political reasons. Now he can blame judges appointed by Bush for the failure of the order.

Again, I think that he knew it all along.  Now, he can blame the GOP for the fact that Democrat majorities never passed immigration reform.

The word in Spanish is "cinico, muy cinico"!  Unfortunately, there are still too many "hispanos" intoxicated in "si se puede" and continue to support President Obama!

Be Smart about Sending Money to Central America

President Obama has proposed "an aid" package to Central America in the 2015 budget, or about $1 billion.

In general, I agree with anything that promotes Central America, a poor region devastated by cartel violence and local governments that can't stand up to lawlessness.

The net result is the kind of desperation that drives people across Mexico and to the U.S.

The Boston Globe describes the aid in today's editorial:
"The initiative, dubbed the Alliance for Prosperity and included in President Obama’s proposed budget, represents almost three times more funding than what the region typically gets in aid from the United States.
It’s an investment worth making.
“Compared to what we give globally, to less strategically important places given the fact that migration issues come from these countries, it’s a fantastic step forward,” notes Jason Marczak, a Latin America expert at the Atlantic Council.
The plan takes a comprehensive approach and focuses on development assistance with three major objectives: to provide greater economic opportunities to Central Americans, to strengthen public institutions and governance in the region, and to ensure the safety of its citizens.
In other words, the aid initiative doesn’t just focus on supporting police and military, like other big Latin American aid packages such as Plan Colombia and the Merida Initiative.
This plan intends to tackle conditions on the ground, including issues like community-based violence, the lack of rule of law, and the high levels of inequality and poverty."
Yes, a stable, and hopefully prosperous region, is the best medicine to keep people home.

Again, I agree with the idea but have a few suggestions:

1) Let's not give anything. I would favor more "loans to entrepreneurs" so that they can create jobs. These loans should be handled by the U.S. Embassy or a U.S. agency in the region. The money should not go to the local government with the expectation that it will be "loaned" to locals.

2) Central America has a terrible cartel problem. You can't invest in a region unless you kick the criminals off the streets.  Therefore, military aid must be a part of any assistance. Local governments must take back the street or people will continue to go north.

There are no easy answers for Central America. We can't fix all of their problems. At the same, we can't sit in the bleachers and watch because the Central Americans show up at our border.

The Answer to ISIS is Midnight Basketball

The Obama White House has tried another explanation for the ISIS threat. I guess that ISIS taking over more and more territory and beheading people is just the latest version of "it's the economy stupid".

Please check this out:
"What the West really needs to take on the Islamic State is... a jobs program.
That's what a top State Department spokeswoman suggested when asked in a TV interview Monday night about what the U.S.-led coalition is doing to stop the slaughter of civilians by Islamic State militants across the region.
"We're killing a lot of them, and we're going to keep killing more of them. ... But we cannot win this war by killing them," department spokeswoman Marie Harf said on MSNBC's "Hardball." "We need ... to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it's lack of opportunity for jobs, whether--"
At that point, Harf was interrupted by host Chris Matthews, who pointed out, "There's always going to be poor people. There's always going to be poor Muslims."
Harf continued to argue that the U.S. should work with other countries to "help improve their governance" and "help them build their economies so they can have job opportunities for these people."
She acknowledged there's "no easy solution" and said the U.S. would still take out ISIS leaders. But Harf said: "If we can help countries work at the root causes of this -- what makes these 17-year-old kids pick up an AK-47 instead of trying to start a business?""
This is beyond a lack of seriousness. Even Chris Matthews snapped!

This is the kind of thinking that will get a lot of Americans killed.

Wonder when they will suggest midnight basketball? We need to have these men put down their "machetes" and pick up a basketball.

So let's form the Kareem Abdul Jabbar League and get them to play pick up basketball!  We will all be "safe" after that!

The "no go zones" are not listed on the Paris Tourist Map

About 5 years ago, I spoke with a family member who had left Cuba and settled in France. I had not seen or spoken with him for 40 years so we had a lot to chat about.
Our conversation took place around the time that cars were burning in Paris. I asked a couple of simple questions:
1) Where were the police?
2) Where were the firetrucks?
His answer was amazing. He said in Spanish that the police or fire departments don't go into those areas.

I was stunned with his answer but learned a big lesson about France and "no go zones".

Over the last month, National Security expert Steven Emerson shook up the "PC corner" when he misspoke about Birmingham, England. He said that Birmingham was "totally Muslim", a mistake and something that he apologized for.

Emerson's comments, combined with Fox News Derangement Syndrome, gave the left an opportunity to attack "no go zones" as some creation of "right wing minds". Mayor Hildalgo of Paris even threatened to sue Fox News.

In fact, there are "no go zones" as Soeren Kern wrote recently:

"The jihadist attack on the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo, a French magazine known for lampooning Islam, has cast a spotlight on so-called no-go zones in France and other European countries.
No-go zones are Muslim-dominated neighborhoods that are largely off limits to non-Muslims due to a variety of factors, including the lawlessness and insecurity that pervades a great number of these areas. Host-country authorities have effectively lost control over many no-go zones and are often unable or unwilling to provide even basic public aid, such as police, fire fighting and ambulance services, out of fear of being attacked by Muslim youth.
Muslim enclaves in European cities are also breeding grounds for Islamic radicalism and pose a significant threat to Western security.
Europe's no-go zones are the by-product of decades of multicultural policies that have encouraged Muslim immigrants to create parallel societies and remain segregated from -- rather than become integrated into -- their European host nations.
The problem of no-go zones is well documented, but multiculturalists and their politically correct supporters vehemently deny that they exist. Some are now engaged in a concerted campaign to discredit and even silence those who draw attention to the issue.
Consider Carol Matlack, an American writer for Bloomberg Businessweek, who recently penned a story -- entitled "Debunking the Myth of Muslim-Only Zones in Major European Cities" -- in which she claims that no-go zones are nothing more than an "urban legend" that is "demonstrably untrue." She then goes on to ridicule those who disagree with her.
The American cable television channel Fox News has also issued at least four apologies for referring to Muslim no-go zones in Europe, after one commentator erroneously claimed that the entire city of Birmingham, England, was Muslim. Had he simply said that "parts" of Birmingham are Muslim, he would have been correct.
Despite such politically correct denials, Muslim no-go zones are a well-known fact of life in many parts of Europe."
I have heard the same from a good friend in London, another in Holland and my aforementioned family member living in France.

Of course, the governments, in the UK or France or Holland, will not admit publicly that the police or firemen will not go into these areas.   Governments will never admit this but they are what they are. These areas are lawless zones way beyond the control of the rule of law.

Are the Clintons ready to 'Slime'?

(My mew American Thinker post)

As I told a couple of Democrat friends, Bill Clinton was rather lucky in 1992.

In other words, he had Ross Perot taking 19% of the vote. He got 43% and won!
Hillary Clinton won't be so lucky:

1) No Perot to divide the white middle-class vote;

2) A political landscape where she owns President Obama's foreign policy and an economy that few people are happy about.

Maybe this is why "the war room" is suddenly "the slime room", according to Maureen Dowd:
"Once they had the sly James Carville, fondly known as “serpenthead.”
Now they have the slippery David Brock, accurately known as a snake.
Brock fits into the Clinton tradition of opportunistic knife-fighters like Dick Morris and Mark Penn."
The Clintons are getting ready to do two things:

1) They want to send a message to any challenger that they've got the money and will spend it to destroy you. Are you listening, Senator Elizabeth Warren? Can you prove that you're 1/32nd Cherokee? Don't be surprised if there are a bunch of media articles quoting anonymous sources challenging her native American connection.

2) The Clintons know that they can't run on issues in 2016. They can not defend the Obama economy. Worse than that, Hillary Clinton, or former Secretary of State Clinton, owns this foreign policy 100%. She owns Russia and the Middle East. She did not resign when President Obama walked away from Iraq, one of the biggest foreign policy blunders ever. Benghazi is still out there! Yemen just fell.

Is she seriously going to tell us that she traveled all over?

So get ready for Clinton "slime".

I just hope that the eventual GOP nominee fights back and reminds everyone that this is a corrupt couple that will say and do anything to win an election.
