Another Op-Ed? When will foreign dictators go on 'Dancing with the stars'?

(My new American Thinker post)

First, it was "Moscow Vlad" over at The NY Times.  Now, it "the moderate from Tehran" going on The Washington Post.

Do I see a trend here?

The cynic in me tells me that Iran is buying time, or wrapping up the West in a negotiation mode.

Iran, like all others, have concluded that the US is weak.  They see a president who drew a red line, threatened to use force, couldn't get a congressional resolution and then backed into a deal that allows Assad to stay in power.

The bottom line is that we drew a line, someone crossed it and nothing happened.  They call that "weakness" in the real world.

I agree with my friend Bill Katz:

"My fear is that we will get an "agreement" with Iran that will be meaningless.  They'll "scale back" a small part of their program, allow some international inspection, and pursue the bomb secretly.  Europeans will be the first to look away, for there is business to be done in Iran.  Then will come the leftist journalists, who will hail Obama as a peacemaker.  Hey, let's get back to carbon footprints.  Iran has duly noted our cave-in on Syria.  They know with whom they're dealing."

Op-eds?  Charm tours?  Larry King interviews?  When will the moderate of Tehran go on "Dancing with the stars"?

Maybe Profar should have played a full season in the minors this year

The blame game is off and running in some of the sports talk shows.  I'm not participating for two reasons:

1) the season is not over.  Texas is still in the post-season run; and,

2) Ron Washington is not the problem.  He's been forced to manage a team with a crippled pitching staff.

Frankly, I think that the blame game is a bit premature.  Let's wait for this season to play out or next year when he has a healthy team.

I wall second guess the Rangers on Jurickson Profar.  It would have been a lot better to keep Profar in AAA for a full season.  It was a mistake to have him up here switching positions or batting DH.

Go Rangers!

Why would a capitalist dress up like a bloody communist?

(My new American Thinker post)

Our friend Alberto de la Cruz has the pictures over at Babalu -"Billionaire Richard Branson dresses like mass murderer Che Guevara to sell cell phone service."  (Thanks to Marc Masferrer for starting this at his blog!)

On a scale of 1 to 10, let's make this a 9, or somewhere between a "Che" placard at the immigration marches or Jay-Z walking around Havana with a T-shirt.

Did anyone tell Mr Branson what Che thought of capitalism and specially capitalists?   (Get Mr Branson a copy of Humberto Fontova's book and read about the real "Che".)

In other words, this is a man who "supervised" the murder of hundreds of Cubans.

This is not the romantic figure created in Hollywood about a young man riding a motorcycle in South America.   He is not that "Jim Morrison-like-face" that shows up at every leftist rally in the world.

Che was a murderer and he really hated capitalists.

We ask again: Did any one in Mr Branson's marketing department do their homework before they came up with this rather insulting campaign to promote his business?

Mr Branson is actually rather fortunate that he did not own an airline in the Cuba that Che governed in the early 1960's.  Very lucky!

First, his private property would have been "nationalized" or stolen by the Castro regime.

Second, Branson would have been accused of exploiting employees. In Che's world, every employer exploits his workers!

Third, it's likely that Branson would have been connected to the CIA. Why not? Everybody else was accused of working for the CIA.

At the end of the day, Mr Branson would have ended in prison or executed. He may have been lucky enough to get out like so many others did.

We ask again: Why would a capitalist dress up like a bloody communist to promote his business?

The answer is ignorance, plain and simple ignorance.

Didn't Alexis get the memo?

(My new American Thinker post)

Well, it did not take long for the "gun control" crowd to get their message machine going!  Their message is always simple:  We need more gun laws!

Starbucks, a place that I go to from time to time for coffee, just put out a message calling on customers to keep their guns home.

Like so many gun control enthusiasts, Starbucks does not understand a simple fact:  Law abiding citizens do not shoot innocent people when they are drinking coffee or doing something else.

The real problem is that crazy and deranged people do not follow the law or pay attention to memos from a well meaning Starbucks CEO's.
Perhaps, someone will stand back and remember something about the Navy Yards, i.e.  a gun free zone:

"Alexis passed his background checks, then was issued credentials that allowed him to enter the Navy Yard, bypassing such armed security personnel as guarded the perimeter.    After that, he faced unarmed victims, deprived of the means to defend themselves. "

Once again, we will hear from the left that we need more gun control.  Unfortunately, all of these "gun free zones" do not allow Americans to protect themselves from people who go crazy.

Even “El Pais” thinks that Branson was over the top!

(My new Babalu post)
I found this from "El Pais" in Spain to be rather interesting:
"Si el Che Guevara levantara la cabeza, probablemente volvería a morirse al ver que uno de los hombres más ricos del mundo, defensor del capitalismo a ultranza que lo ha llevado a la cima de las listas de los más millonarios, ha utilizado su mítica boina, su uniforme y sus gestos más característicos para promocionar la marca que más dinero le ha hecho ganar: Virgin."
It translates to something like this:  If Che raised his head, he'd be shocked to see a big time capitalist dressed up like him.
We can make fun of the picture but there is a serious side to all of this.
Thank God that Mr Branson was not the owner of an airliner in Cuba when the Castro brothers and Che came into power.
He would have been treated to a very bad case of repression and his business would have expropriated in the name of a corrupt revolution.
Branson is really stupid and lucky.
He is stupid for dressing like a communist to promote capitalism.
He is lucky that he never had to live under the leader that he is glorifying with this stupid rebel outfit.
What's next?  Is he "going Mao or Stalin" to promote Virgin's flights to Moscow or Peking?

What jobs in the jobs report?

(My new Babalu post)

We got more news that "the stimulus" is  not stimulating, "hope is hopeless", "change is misery" & "si se puede' is really "no se puede".

This is the most recent tragic tale from the Obama recovery:

"The downside is that the gains have been largely in lower-paying industries such as waitresses, in-home health care, food preparation and housekeeping.
About 60 percent of the increase in employment for women from 2009 to 2012 was in jobs that pay less than $10.10 an hour, compared with 20 percent for men, according to a study by the National Women’s Law Center using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics."
And these are the people who say that conservatives have a 'war on women"?
Wonder if  "Life of Julia" had a episode about "low paying jobs"?
A great recovery, specially if you are looking for low paying jobs!

Why shouldn't the GOP stop an extremely unpopular law?

(My new American Thinker post)

ObamaCare, or The Affordable Health Care Act, is now more unpopular than ever, according to Susan Page of USA Today:

"53% disapprove of the health care law, the highest level since it was signed; 42% approve.
By an even wider margin, intensity favors the opposition; 41% of those surveyed strongly disapprove while just 26% strongly approve.
Fifty-three percent disapprove of Obama's handling of health care policy, an historic high.
And Democrats have lost their traditional advantage on the issue.
For the first time in polling that stretches back more than two decades, Americans narrowly prefer Republicans in dealing with health care policy, 40%-39%.
A boost in approval for the law that followed the Supreme Court decision in July 2012 upholding most of its provisions, to 47% approve-43% disapprove, has disappeared."

It does not sound like fighting ObamaCare is going to be an unpopular task!

The GOP should force Democrats to defend the law.  As we know, the AHCA was passed without open debate or hearings.  It was rushed through Congress.

Also, the GOP should argue that the law about to be implemented is not the law passed by Congress.  The AHCA has been amended or changed "19 times."

In other words, please don't tell me that this is what the Supreme Court approved 5-4.

Again, what is the GOP afraid of?  Fight to de fund ObamaCare and force Democrats to  fight for it.   Let Democrats defend it!

Was President Obama angry that the Navy Yard tragedy interrupted his planned speech?

(My new American Thinker post)

There are days when we are Americans, or we put our "D" and "R" aside because of a Tucson, a 9-11 or a Boston shooting.  For example, did any of you care about politics when you saw those towers going down?  Like most of you, I thought about the victims and their families.

Sadly, President Obama did not do that yesterday.  He spoke a few hours, and miles, from a mass shooting and couldn't help attacking the GOP.

"On Monday, while the death toll mounted at the Navy Yard, President Barack Obama delivered a strident partisan tirade against Republicans, using the fifth anniversary of the Lehman Brothers collapse to score political points ahead of the debt ceiling debate. It was an appalling act of division and insensitivity, and unlike George W. Bush's My Pet Goat moment on 9/11, it was a calculated abdication of leadership."

I'm not a psychiatrist but President Obama has all of the signs of a man overwhelmed by events.  Mr Hume is right: "too partisan".

With respect to President Obama, he looks bitter because events have not gone as planned:

1) They still hate and want to kill us around the world.  "The Cairo Speech" now looks silly in retrospect;  The Arab spring looks like something out of a movie rather than the newsreels;

2) Syria has not gone down well.  He lost a lot of his base on this one;

3) The US economy is not clicking.  On the contrary, more and more people have given up looking for work.  There is now serious income inequality in the 5th year of the Obama presidency;

4) ObamaCare is off to such a bad start and is very unpopular: and,

5) He is not a transforming president.  He is "small" like Carter rather than consequential like Reagan.

Again, this is not psychiatry.  I'm just looking at a man who can't handle the reality that he has been forced to operate in.  The bad news for all of us is that he has 40 months left of this agony.

All we are saying is give parents a chance

(My new American Thinker post)

We have a public school crisis. How do I know? Because so many Democrats send their kids to private schools. They take money from the teachers' union but send their kids to private institutions. Obama, Gore, Clinton, Kerry, Kennedy, et al!

The big problem in public education is that parents are not a part of the system. They have no voice because they are not using money (or the taxes that they pay) to choose where their kids go to school.

This is why I love "the education debit card" by Lindsey Burke of The Heritage Foundation:
"As parental choice in education takes root in more communities throughout the U.S., education savings accounts (ESAs) have taken on greater importance as the funding mechanism for customized learning. This is especially true in Arizona. The state's version of ESAs, known as Empowerment Scholarship Accounts, has enabled families to completely tailor their children's educational experience. With Empowerment Scholarship Accounts, Arizona has created a model that should be every state policymaker's goal when considering how to improve education: funding students instead of physical school buildings and allowing that funding to follow children to any education provider of choice."
Put the money in the parents' hands and let them spend it. The net result will be better schools and that will mean more kids ready for the international economy that we are doing business in.
