Back then, I was a Reagan volunteer and got very involved in his candidacy.
Before the delegates nominated President Ford, Governor Reagan announced that Senator Richard Schweiker of Pennsylvania would be his running mate. Reagan was trying to balance the ticket by selecting the more liberal Schweiker.
Before politics, he was an executive in the private sector and later served in the Reagan cabinet.
