He was a very accomplished actor. He worked on many TV and film projects, from "Star Trek" to the Oscar-winning film "In The Heat Of The Night", as well as serving as president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1979 to 1981.
Many of us remember him as Patty Duke's dad, or Mr. Lane. They made 102 episodes of that series.
