Pres BO was in shock when we water-boarded 3 terrorists but totally indifferent about 300-plus dead in Mexico

The other big story of the week is Congress holding AG Holder in contempt of Congress.

We got to this point because AG Holder & Pres BO have invoked executive privilege on this issue.

We believe that "executive privilege" is a presidential prerogative.  We understand that presidents must protect their confidential conversations.  It is important for advisors to speak candidly to the president without "leaks" to The NY Times.

Executive privilege is a bit strange here because Pres BO has spent two years saying that he did not speak to anyone about F&F.  We were told that Pres BO learned about the operation after the fact.  So what conversations is he protecting?

As we've posted before, there are 2 dead officers.  We are talking about Officer Terry killed on the US-Mexico border and Officer Zapata killed on a Mexican highway.

And let's not forget that 300-plus Mexicans have been killed.  In fact, it may be more than 300 because the overall total is 50,000 south of the border.

Yes, the House was  correct.  Unfortunately, many Dems walked out rather than vote on the issue.   That was disgraceful!

It's a tax and let Pres BO & Dems defend that now!

The headline is that the Supreme Court upheld BO-Care.  In fact, the decision is a bit more complex than that.

Chief Justice Roberts told us that the mandate was unconstitutional under the commerce clause.  This is good because it respects the constitution.

He also said that BO-Care was constitutional as a "tax".  Again, he is correctly confirming that the Congress can tax and spend.

At the end of the day, this is the worst political outcome for Pres BO & Dems.

First, Pres BO & Dems spent 2009-10 telling us that it was not a tax.  Just check it out for yourself:

"STEPHANOPOULOS:  That may be, but it’s still a tax increase.

OBAMA:  No.  That’s not true, George.  The — for us to say that you’ve got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase.  What it’s saying is, is that we’re not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you anymore than the fact that right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase. People say to themselves, that is a fair way to make sure that if you hit my car, that I’m not covering all the costs."

Question:  Was he ignorant or deceptive.  I can not read Pres BO's mind but he does not win either way.

Second, Pres BO will now have to ask Congress for a "tax" to pay for BO-Care.    He owns the Obama Care tax that we were told did not exist!

My money is on Romney!

Pres BO is just playing politics with Hispanics and immigration

Pres BO spoke before NALEO a few days ago.  It was more of the same.  It was blame the GOP and blame the BOP and hope that hispanos are stupid and ignorant.

Pres BO did talk about the "change" in immigration rules for the "dreamers".

Frankly,  it is not a change because Pres BO can not change laws passed by Congress.  It was an "executive edict" not even an executive order.

At the end of the day, Pres BO's usurpation of his constitutional authority was intended to distract Hispanos from a number of issues that matter a great deal:

1) Very high unemployment in Hispanic communities, i.e. 11% compared to 8.2% for the country as a whose.  Do your math and you will calculate that Hispanic unemployment is about 27% higher than the rest of the population;

2) Very bad public schools and no signs of reform because the union is in bed with the Democrats;

3) The mandates against the Catholic church;

4) Same sex marriage and abortion, a couple of issues that do not fly in the very conservative Hispanic community; and,

5) A growing sense that this man will do anything to get reelected.

At the end of the day, Pres BO did not keep any of the promises that he made in 2008.  He certainly did not keep the one about passing immigration reform!

Also, there is a growing sense that Pres BO & Dems think that Hispanics are just too stupid & ignorant to figure it out.  I think that the first Tuesday of November will prove them wrong.

Venezuela? Pres BO is acting more and more like Hugo Chavez everyday

What's wrong with this picture?  The answer is a lot, specially if you believe that we are a nation of laws!

First, the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the most important portion of the Arizona law, i.e. police officers can check immigration paper.

I know that they reversed 3 other provisions but they were never controversial.  The law was sent to the Supreme Court because of the "show me your papers" provision.  We repeat that this provision was upheld unanimously 8-0!

How does the Obama administration respond to that?

They declare war on Arizona.  They will now make life miserable for Arizona as they try to implement the law just upheld by The Supreme Court.  Check out Power Line:

"The Department of Homeland Security said it would exclude Arizona from a program known as 287(g), which allows the feds to deputize local officials to make immigration-based arrests.

A Homeland Security official explained that the administration finds such agreements “not useful” in states that have Arizona-style laws. I guess the program is “useful” only in states that aren’t taking meaningful measures to identify illegal aliens.

Accordingly, local police in Arizona will have to rely on federal officials to arrest illegal aliens.

But federal officials have made it clear that the feds will not respond to calls from Arizona law enforcement unless the person detained meets certain criteria, such as being wanted for a felony. Being an illegal alien is not enough.

As Obama showed with his unilateral mini-DREAM act, this administration is no longer interested in enforcing the immigration laws except perhaps against illegal aliens who are shown to have engaged in felonious conduct.

In addition, the Justice Department set up a hotline through which people can complain about having their immigration status checked by Arizona law enforcement officials. Obama thus hopes to drum up complaints against Arizona law enforcement agents.

He wants to make the federal government a party to the harassment of those trying to do what Obama won’t – enforce the law.

Obama hopes to intimidate them into not using their authority to address the severe problem of illegal immigration — authority granted by the state legislature and upheld as constitutional by the Supreme Court."

This is outrageous and should anger every citizen of the US.

The Obama administration did not like that the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the heart of the Arizona law and responds by treating the state like an outlaw nation.

In two weeks, we've seen Pres BO "change immigration law" by decree and now he will target a state because he is a sore loser.

Am I living in Venezuela?

Calling Jorge Ramos: Hispanics Are More Interested in the Economy Than in Immigration

This article was printed today at The American Thinker.

Am I the only Hispanic who is a bit confused with the disproportionate amount of the time the Spanish-speaking media devotes to immigration?

Watching Jorge Ramos's Sunday program leads you to think that Hispanics are talking immigration 24/7.  His recent interview with Senator Rubio was all about immigration.  At one point, he complained that Sen. Rubio does not defend "undocumented" workers.

I wonder if someone has told Jorge Ramos that "Hispanics" have 11% unemployment in the U.S., or that there are thousands of Hispanic young soldiers in Afghanistan.

This week, we got more evidence that Hispanics care a lot more about the economy than immigration:
U.S. Hispanics prioritize immigration, healthcare, and unemployment to equal degrees, according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll asking about the importance of six national policy issues.
Twenty percent of Hispanics each mention one of the top three issues as mattering most to them, while 17% name economic growth, 11% name the gap between the rich and poor, and 7% name the federal budget deficit.
Hispanic registered voters, however, put healthcare and all economic issues before immigration, which 12% name as their most important issue.
These findings make a lot sense to those of us who talk to Hispanics every day.  Even illegal immigrants are disgusted with the Obama economy and going home as a consequence.  I had an illegal immigrant say to me the other day that Obama has been a disaster -- i.e., no immigration reform, and a lousy economy!

Here is the bottom line: most Hispanics see themselves as Americans.  They have the same concerns that all of us do.  They also share a respect for the rule of law.

What about all of those polls that show that Pres. BO leads Gov. Romney among Hispanics?

Let me go on record and say that I am very skeptical about these numbers -- especially the size of the Obama advantage.

First, elections are about turnout, and Hispanics usually don't.  (Charlie Cook makes this point: "Latino voters’ turnout appears problematic.")

Second, Hispanics are thinking about the economy, and Obama has nothing to say to them about that topic.

Third, the aforementioned Gallup poll lists the federal deficit as another major concern.  Pres. Obama does not have anything to say on that topic, either.

Save this one and check it out on the Wednesday after the election.  My prediction is that this is the year that Hispanics show up to vote about the economy rather than immigration.  This is the year that we finally put to rest the idea that Hispanics are talking about immigration 24/7.

Again, calling Jorge Ramos.  Can someone change the coffee that he drinks on Sunday mornings?

The Supreme Court upholds the key provision of the Arizona law

There were four parts to the Arizona law.  The big one was about policemen inquiring about immigration law.  This is the one that made the Arizona law controversial and the reason that we had a ruling in the first place.

The Arizona law was about a state under siege from drug cartels and illegal immigrants.  It was about enforcing federal laws.  Even the Obama administration did not argue about "racial profiling" before the Supreme Court.

As we posted two years ago, we would prefer to see the federal government enforcing immigration laws.  Unfortunately, Pres BO has decided that he will enforce some laws and not others, such as immigration laws or The Defense of Marriage Act.

Again, Arizona won on that point and that's good news.  I agree with Roy Beck:

"Fortunately, all states now have a bright green light from the Court to follow Arizona’s lead in enforcing the laws in the way that Congress intended, even if the president insists on violating those laws."

The problem with Fast & Furious is that a bunch of people are DEAD

We've focused a lot on the death of Border Officer Terry and Customs Officer Zapata.  Terry was killed on the border and Zapata on a Mexican highway.  They were both killed by weapons provided by the US government to Mexican cartels.

In other words, this is more than a scandal of executive incompetence.  This is about telling the Terry & Zapata families why their sons were killed by guns that we gave to Mexican cartels.

Furthermore, there are more than 300 dead in Mexico that we are not talking about up here.  At the end of the day, the Obama administration authorized an operation that crossed an international border and armed Mexico's # 1 enemy, the drug cartels.  Someone in the Obama administration needs to stand up and apologize to Mexico for an operation that increased the killing south of the border.

So far, the AG Holder has played games by "blaming Bush", the automatic explanation from this administration when they don't have an answer to a question.  Yet, this is not what Pres Bush authorized.  Check out Michael Walsh:

"Fast and Furious bears a superficial resemblance to a much smaller Bush-era operation known as Operation Wide Receiver, in which some 450 guns walked into Mexico.

But that operation was conducted with the full knowledge of Mexican authorities — unlike Fast and Furious, which was kept secret — and the government at least attempted to implant radio tracking devices on the weapons.

When that failed, the operation was terminated."

At some point, someone has to step up and take responsibility for this operation.  What else do you expect when the US government puts 2,000 guns in the hands of criminals in another country?

Dear Brides & Grooms: Cancel your honeymoon and send the money to Pres BO's reelection (He is desperate for your money)

Political or electoral desperation comes in various forms:

1) Scare your base to vote, such as telling Hispanics that Romney wants to send your abuela back to Mexico.  (In fact, it is the Obama economy sending Mexicans back to Mexico)

2) "Leak" natural security secrets to The NY Times to show the world that Pres BO is tough on terrorists or Iran.  (Remember "Obama killed Osama" and BO was the Navy Seal who put a bullet in Osama's eyes!)

There are many signs of political desperation.  However, the Obama reelection team has really hit bottom.

According to news reports, the Obama team wants you to send your wedding gift to keep MO and BO flying on Air Force One:

"It’s a fairly common practice for people with weddings or birthdays coming up to ask their friends and guests to donate money to a charity or cause of their choice instead of buying them an actual gift, and it looks like the Obama campaign just thought up the absolutely brilliant, not-at-all galling idea of capitalizing on that ritual.

No, dear friends — this is not a joke."  (Erika Johnsen)

Right.  This is not a joke. This is another example of how desperate they are getting over at the BO reelection campaign.

Cancel your honeymoon.  Tell your family and friends to send the money to BO & MO.  You can always get a CD and listen to Mary Hopkin singing "The honeymoon song".

Cancel your plans.  BO & MO need your money because it's getting harder and harder to raise money from all of those rich liberals who voted to close GITMO and change the Bush anti-terror policies:

"I never knew that a day like today lay before us
I've got the sun in my heart and my heart in the sun
Skies are as bright as your eyes
The horizon is open Love is the ceiling
Feelings are reeling Free as the air
Forever on and forever Forever on side by side
Who ever knew that we two could be free as we'd fancy?
Fancy is free
But are we who are bound to each other by love?
To each other by love
Skies....."

Dear President Calderon: Mexico would benefit from calling home the 'dreamers'

This article was published at American Thinker.

According to news reports, there are approximately 1 million "dreamers" in the US.   They are the young people who came here with their parents and grew up in the US.  They are the objects of a huge debate about their future and immigration status.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am sympathetic to finding an arrangement for some of them.

However, I found Pres BO's "decree" appalling and wrong.  We should not have a president who issues decrees.  We don't live in Venezuela, but rather the US where Congress makes immigration laws and presidents enforce them.

It also amazes me how quickly Mexico has given up on these young people.  Why isn't the Mexican government inviting them to come home and be a part of a 21st century Mexico? 70% of them are Mexican and have indirect or direct contacts with their families back home.

This is a group who has accomplished quite a lot:
"Nearly 60 percent of those eligible for Obama's new policy (about 800,000) are currently enrolled in K-12 institutions, a quarter of those eligible (about 370,000) are high school graduates or have earned a GED certificate, and more than 15 percent (about 220,000) are enrolled in or have graduated from college, according to recent estimates by the Migration Policy Institute." (HuffPost)
Let me repeat.  It is amazing that Mexico does not call on these young people to bring their talents home.

Question: How many Mexicans have high school diplomas?  How about adding 200,000 people to the Mexican economy who are enrolled or have graduated from college?

Last, but not least, most of these young people are bilingual, an extremely important skill for a Mexican economy looking to expand internationally.

We ask again:  Why isn't Mexico calling on these young people to come  home?  They are a huge source of talent and would play a key role in a 21st century Mexico.

The young people are already Mexican citizens.  They would not require any "papers" to be incorporated into the economy.  What's the point of losing this talent to the US?

I am really surprised that Mexico, and Pres Calderon, were so eager to say goodbye to such a talented group of young people.

Pres BO has actually lost support since he went around Congress with the "dreamers" decision

A week ago, Pres BO went around Congress and announced the legalization of "dreamers".

It was a cynical political move designed to distract "hispanos" from the 11% unemployment in Hispanic communities.

It was also a way of making Hispanics forget that Pres BO could not, and can not, get any immigration legislation from Democrats.

We remind you that Pres BO had a "filibuster proof" 60 votes in the US Senate and a 40-plus majority in the House.

He never sent this Congress a proposal.

Pres BO still has a 53-47 US Senate majority today.  Again, he has not publicly called on them to put any immigration legislation to a vote.

Hispanics have painfully learned that the Dem party is like the guy who owes you money and never puts the check in the mail.

Pres BO's unilateral decision was a big mistake:

1) He does not have the authority to change laws.  That's what Congress does;

2) He showed the world that his reelection campaign is in full "desperation and panic mode"; and,

3) He has demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that the Dem party is nothing but talk when it comes to the immigration debate.  I hope that some Hispanics remember that the next time that they cast a vote for "hope and change".

I agree with Charles Krauthammer:  Obama's Naked Lawlessness

Stand up and fight against Pres BO's war against Catholics

Over the next few weeks , the Catholic Church will call on all men and women of good faith to stand up against BO-Care's mandates.

The bishops started it all with letters and statements read at masses all over the US.  The issue is BO-Care and the mandates that force Catholic hospitals and charities to violate our principles, such as belief in life and opposition to abortion.

According to LifeNews

"The Fortnight for Freedom campaign the nation’s Catholic bishops started against the Obama HHS mandate, which forces religious groups to pay for abortions and birth control drugs for their employees, begins Thursday.

The United States Catholic bishops are readying American Catholics for what may be the largest campaign of civil disobedience since the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s.

In addition to 12 lawsuits against the Obama Administration including 46 plaintiffs from dioceses, hospitals and universities, the US Catholic bishops are urging Catholics to openly defy the Obama HHS Mandate."

It will start with a mass in Baltimore and end in Boston on July 4th.  It will be an opportunity for Catholics to pray for life, traditional marriage and our constitutional freedoms.

Of course, all of this may be mute if the Supreme Court throws out BO-Care next week.  I guess that we should pray for that too!

Pres BO goes into "fast & furious" mode to keep the documents from the public

A couple of years ago, we heard about Border Agent Terry's death.  A bit later we learned that ICE agent Zapata had been murdered on a Mexican highway.  Just recently, the Mexican AG told the press that there are about 300-plus dead south of the border.

Here is the story:  ATF put guns south of the border so that we could track the cartels.

In principle, the idea is OK.  In theory, we were hoping to track down these guns and the criminals who travel with them.

In fact, the Bush administration had a similar plan.

So what went wrong?

First, the Bush administration worked with the Mexican government.  The Obama administration did not.

Second, the purpose of the Bush administration was to help Mexico fight cartels.   Sadly, the intention of the Obama administration was to blame
Texas gun shops and go after the 2nd amendment.

On Wednesday, the House Committee voted to hold AG Holder in contempt of Congress.  The House will vote next week.

Worse than that, Pres BO is now claiming executive privilege and stopping the release of documents.  This is very troubling because Pres BO had denied any involvement in the episode.

So what information is in those documents anyway?  What is the point of claiming "executive privilege" to protect AG Holder?

The bad news is that this is going to get very ugly.

The good news is that we finally be able to tell Agent Terry's mother about the author of the program who killed her son.

Last, but not least, we are really watching an administration in total and complete panic mode.

Again, this is going to get very ugly.

Governing by presidential decree should scare the "you know what" out of Hispanics

Years ago, I was working in Mexico City and enjoying lunch in one of those wonderful "Zona Rosa" restaurants.  I was catching up with a couple of Mexican friends who happened to be PAN-istas, or members of the conservative party.  (Back then, the PRI was still governing the country, and PAN never thought that they'd elect a president.  They did in 2000 and 2006.)

It turned out that President López-Portillo was delivering his "informe," or the Mexican version of the State of the Union speech, that day.

Let me add some context.  Mexico was reeling from a February devaluation and more currency collapses in August.  It got so bad that a Mexican delegation was sent to Washington, D.C. for an emergency meeting with President Reagan and then-Treasury Secretary Regan.  It was a very bad summer for Mexicans, and capital flight was the order of the day.

López-Portillo's informe was a boring speech, full of numbers and "I did this" and "I did that."

At one point, López-Portillo dropped the bomb.  He expropriated the Mexican private banking system.  He was trying to blame the bankers for the devaluations that his own irresponsible policies had caused.

My two friends screamed at the TV and called him a "dictator."  They also said a couple of Spanish words that I can't repeat in a PG blog.

I said: Can he do that?

My friend replied: Yes, that's what's wrong with Mexico.  The president can do whatever he wants.

I said: What about Congress?  What about the courts?

My friend looked at me and said: This is Mexico, not the U.S.

I never forgot that moment.  I was witness to an irresponsible power-grab by a man desperately trying to change the subject.

I can add to that story what is happening in Venezuela with Hugo Chávez.  Or what my parents saw in Cuba -- who can forget Fidel Castro saying, "Elections, for what?"

Every Hispanic in the U.S. has roots in Latin America.  We are either political refugees like my family or people looking for better economic opportunities.

What do we have in common?  We are from countries with no rule of law.

Let me caution my Hispanic friends who are cheering amnesty by presidential decree.

First of all, it is not a change in the law, because the next president can cancel what President Obama just did.

Second, it is a bad habit to let presidents get away with violating the U.S. Constitution.  What will they do next?

The Hispanic "love affair" with Pres BO is more of a personality cult rather than anything based on accomplishments

At some point, someone has to ask a simple question:  What has this guy Obama done to merit such "a blind love" from so many Hispanics?

Here is the answer:  The love is not based on results or anything that he has done to make things better for the Hispanic population.

Over the years, Pres BO has carried the water of the labor unions.  He certainly did in 2007 when he was one of the Dems who introduced the amendments who killed the "work visas" included in the Kennedy-McCain immigration bill.

As president, Pres BO did not lift a finger to push immigration reform when he had 60 votes in the US, or the super majority that made any GOP objection totally irrelevant.

Don't take my word for this.  Read Ruben Navarrette, an honest Hispanic journalist who is not buying Obama-mania:

"Obama tends to forget that, while in the Senate, he supported -- at the behest of organized labor -- a "poison pill" amendment intended to kill bipartisan attempts at comprehensive immigration reform. And, as president, he failed to make reform a top priority, as he promised Latinos he would."

Today, The Dallas Morning News has an editorial on Pres BO's unilateral, and in my opinion unconstitutional, executive decree about granting a legal status to the "dreamers".

The editorial does make this point:

"The truth is that Obama has not done nearly enough to advance immigration reform. His record does not begin to approach his predecessor, George, W. Bush, who was both active and progressive on this front."

Let me go further.

Pres Bush, and Sen McCain, had the courage to put their idea to a vote in Congress.  Some may agree or disagree with the bill but it was done correctly or thorough the constitutional system that we operate under.

Let me ask again:  What has this guy done to merit such affection, and even blind love?

It must be a personality cult because there is nothing behind the rhetoric.

No one has done less to advance the interests of Hispanics than Pres BO.  Nevertheless, he continues to receive blind support.
