Stormy is not much of a storm
There are storms, and there is Stormy Daniels.
This is the latest from Daniels:
A federal judge on Thursday denied a motion from Stormy Daniels seeking to depose President Donald Trump and his longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen in the case over the adult film actress’s nondisclosure agreement.Michael Avenatti, Daniels’ attorney, filed the action in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Tuesday asking permission to question Trump for two hours. Avenatti also sought to depose Cohen. According to the filing, Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford but who goes by her stage name, wants Trump to answer questions about their alleged affair and wants Cohen to discuss the reported hush agreement he struck with her.After the motion was struck down by a judge as premature, Avenatti vowed during a CNN interview on Thursday afternoon to re-up the legal maneuver, possibly by the end of the day.“We can refile this motion,” he said. “That’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
So where are we?
In the short run, they will appeal the judge’s decision.
In the long run, this storm will pass.
First, the Trump-Daniels incident occurred when he was a private citizen. By all indications, it was totally voluntary. No one forced anyone to do anything – or, as they say, two consenting adults.
Second, the Republican women who voted for Mr. Trump calculated all of this prior to voting. After all, we got daily stories for weeks before election day about this woman or that woman. No one voted for Mr. Trump thinking he was a perfect husband. At the same time, the women who voted for him were looking for someone to fix the economy and protect their husbands’ jobs.
Third, there is the hypocrisy factor. Did you see any marches calling on President Clinton or Senator Ted Kennedy to resign?
There is no storm here unless something brand-new appears. My guess is that something would have appeared already, especially weeks before the campaign.

A new citizenship test?
Frankly, most Americans could not pass a citizenship test. Therefore, some of our fellow citizens should go back to school and learn a few things:
1) Appreciation of the rule of law. This is what separates the US from Latin America.
2) Basic understanding of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution.
3) Some knowledge of US history.
Last, but not least, read a bit from The Founding Fathers. You will understand why we have The Bill of Rights.

Remember the change Obama promised in Cuba?
Down in Cuba, they are partying like it’s October 1962 all over again. It’s enough to make you ask, Nikita Khrushchev, where are you?
According to an industry report, Russia and Cuba are back together, or, as the Turtles would sing, “Happy Together“:
A mixed commission made up of members of both the Russian and Cuban maritime authorities met in Havana recently.A subsequent statement revealed that, as a result, a new master plan for Cuban ports will be drawn up covering the period up to 2030, undertaken in cooperation with both public and private state companies.According to Russia’s Minister of Transport, Maksim Sokolov, experts in the country will study proposals from Cuba as part of a mutual cooperation agreement that exists between them.As part of the same relationship, the commission is analysing Russian proposals to build a world maritime warning and safety system covering the entire Cuban coastline. This would guarantee integration of various maritime communications via both satellite and radio, thereby increasing security, improving navigation, and upgrading rescue capability for those vessels in danger.
What can we say about this new friendship?
First, Putin is not looking to subsidize anyone. Unlike Premier Khrushchev, who saw Cuba as part of the USSR empire, Putin wants to promote Russia’s business interests. Vlad could not care less about Raúl, but he loves expanding his “intelligence” network and placing an antenna 90 miles from the U.S. Remember that they used to have a base in Lourdes.
Second, this new relationship with Russia also shows that Raúl Castro is desperate. Wouldn’t Raúl Castro rather do this deal with a Western country that does not want to reopen an antenna in Cuba? My guess is yes, but no one wants to extend loans that never get repaid.
So the Russians are coming, and it’s not a remake of the old movie.
2012: Remember when it was cool to use Facebook to get the vote out?
Back in 2012, the Obama campaign team was hailed for their use of social media. Remember this one from a few weeks after the election? Let's take a look at this one by Michael Scherer:
In the final weeks before Election Day, a scary statistic emerged from the databases at Barack Obama’s Chicago headquarters: half the campaign’s targeted swing-state voters under age 29 had no listed phone number. They lived in the cellular shadows, effectively immune to traditional get-out-the-vote efforts.And everyone thought that the Obama team was really cool! So cool that they re-elected their man!
For a campaign dependent on a big youth turnout, this could have been a crisis. But the Obama team had a solution in place: a Facebook application that will transform the way campaigns are conducted in the future. For supporters, the app appeared to be just another way to digitally connect to the campaign.
But to the Windy City number crunchers, it was a game changer. “I think this will wind up being the most groundbreaking piece of technology developed for this campaign,” says Teddy Goff, the Obama campaign’s digital director.
That’s because the more than 1 million Obama backers who signed up for the app gave the campaign permission to look at their Facebook friend lists. In an instant, the campaign had a way to see the hidden young voters.
Roughly 85% of those without a listed phone number could be found in the uploaded friend lists. What’s more, Facebook offered an ideal way to reach them. “People don’t trust campaigns. They don’t even trust media organizations,” says Goff. “Who do they trust? Their friends.”

Let’s cut to the chase: Make 2020 about the 2nd Amendment
For too long, the Democrats have been dancing around the 2nd Amendment. They want to ban “assault weapons” and want “reasonable gun control measures.” In other words, they want the issue, but they don’t want to do anything about it. They didn’t when they had majorities under President Carter, President Clinton or President Obama!
So let’s thank retired Supreme Court justice John Paul Stevens for being honest about it. Justice Stevens wants to repeal the 2nd Amendment:
In 2008, the Supreme Court overturned Chief Justice Burger’s and others’ long-settled understanding of the Second Amendment’s limited reach by ruling, in District of Columbia v. Heller, that there was an individual right to bear arms. I was among the four dissenters.That decision — which I remain convinced was wrong and certainly was debatable — has provided the N.R.A. with a propaganda weapon of immense power. Overturning that decision via a constitutional amendment to get rid of the Second Amendment would be simple and would do more to weaken the N.R.A..’s ability to stymie legislative debate and block constructive gun control legislation than any other available option.That simple but dramatic action would move Saturday’s marchers closer to their objective than any other possible reform. It would eliminate the only legal rule that protects sellers of firearms in the United States — unlike every other market in the world. It would make our schoolchildren safer than they have been since 2008 and honor the memories of the many, indeed far too many, victims of recent gun violence.
So let’s stop talking about “gun rights” or “gun control” and go to the heart of the matter.
It would be very good for the country to have a referendum on the 2nd Amendment. It would be a rare opportunity to settle the issue for good.
Of course, and with all due respect to Justice Stevens, it will never happen. It won’t happen because the Democrats do not have the courage to fight against the 2nd Amendment anywhere except the op-ed pages of the New York Times.

A march against Senator Rubio?
In the interest of full disclosure, I voted for Senator Rubio in the Texas primary. By the time we got to Texas, it was down to Cruz, Kasich, Trump, and Rubio. I concluded that he had the best chance to win the presidency. I turned out to be wrong but that was my vote.
Over the last weeks, we’ve seen massive attacks against Senator Rubio at these marches or even the infamous CNN town hall meeting. Remember this:
The wildest moment allowed by Tapper was when Parkland, Florida student Cameron Kasky smeared the Senator by equating him to the shooter that killed 17 of his classmates. And Tapper thanked him for all of it.“I’m sorry, I know I’m not supposed to do this, but I’m not going to listen to that. Senator Rubio, it’s hard to look at you and not look down the barrel on an AR-15 and not look at Nikolas Cruz, but the point is: You’re here and there are some people who are not,” Kasky spat.After Rubio answered his question, Kasky began to browbeat him for the money the NRA donated to his campaign, basically insinuating he was being bribed. “And this is about people who are for making a difference to save us and people who are against it and prefer money. So Senator Rubio, can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the NRA in the future,” he demanded as the crowd went crazy.
So why Senator Rubio? He didn’t kill the students. He’s been a thoughtful senator. He is not known as an NRA guy. So why the cheap shots on Senator Rubio?
It comes down to a couple of things:
First, Senator Rubio represents a huge threat to the Hispanic left. He speaks and communicates well. He is probably going to be a GOP nominee someday; and,
Second, the Democrats need 70% of the Hispanic vote to win a governorship, the Senate or the presidency. Senator Rubio is the left’s nightmare!
So why did you hear so much about Senator Rubio? Well, he is a political threat and that’s what this is all about.

As I said before, Sen. McCain is not perfect for conservatives. He has done some weird things, such as that position that he took on GITMO detainees. However, he is perfect on the big things. I love his position on the Iraq Report.
On Friday, Sen. McCain said this:
"There's only one thing worse than an overstressed Army and Marine Corps, and that's a defeated Army and Marine Corps...We saw that in 1973. And I believe that this is a recipe that will lead to, sooner or later, our defeat in Iraq."This is Sen. McCain at his best, a leader who is not afraid to stand up to "feel good" polls.

Put me down as one of those who just doesn't get it. I don't know what B. H. Obama does to people. Frankly, all I see is a nice man telling audiences what they want to hear.
Could I vote for someone like that for president? Frankly, I couldn't. After all, we live in very serious times. I don't see a commander in chief in BH Obama. What I see is a guest on The Ophrah Winfrey Show!
Obama-mania is about putting off real problems, such as terrorists or entitlement reform. I guess that we want politicians to tell us what we want to hear. We want to feel good and avoid our problems with Obama-mania.

Today's Selective memory update: Back in 2001, the Clinton census asked for citizenship. Today, DNC Chairman Perez & Rep Pelosi call the Trump idea "....a craven attack on our democracy and a transparent attempt to intimidate immigrant communities."
By the way, what exactly is wrong with asking the citizenship question? Maybe Mr. Perez & Mrs. Pelosi should seek an explanation from President Clinton.

A word about mass shootings in the US
Don't misunderstand. One death is one too many. However, is this t
he epidemic that we hear from the left?
This is from David Unsworth:
Since March of 1998, there have been 298 people killed in school shootings in the United States, or 14.9 deaths a year.
Put another way, in a typical year in the United States in the past two decades, 35 states would not even have a single school shooting death, while the other 15 would have only one.
Of course even one is too many, but this is hardly the national epidemic of school-related violence that the Second Amendment-hating Left and partisan Hollywood celebrity supporters would make it out to be.
Again one death is one death too many. Wouldn't it make more sense to protect our schools and stop the shooter before he starts shooting? Also, why not enforce the laws we already have, such as background checks.

Did Facebook "help" the Obama 2012 reelection?
The allegation is that Facebook voluntarily provided data to the Obama team.
This is what Hans A. von Spakovsky, a Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, wrote on Tuesday:
According to Carol Davidsen, the former media director for Obama for America, Facebook gave the 2012 Obama campaign direct access to the personal data of Facebook users in violation of its internal rules, making a special exception for the campaign.If true, Mark Zuckerberg has big legal or PR problems. No matter what, it will be very difficult when Mark Zuckerberg goes before Congress. He will get questions about 2012 and 2016.
The Daily Mail, a British newspaper, reported that Davidsen said on Twitter March 18 that Facebook employees came to the campaign office and “were very candid that they allowed us to do things they wouldn’t have allowed someone else to do because they were on our side.”
The type of data that the Obama campaign was mining from Facebook is a more sophisticated version of the type of data that has long been provided by professional direct mail marketers – something pioneered by Richard Viguerie.
Viguerie, for example, has detailed personal data on “12 million conservative donors and activists” to whom his company sends letters and emails on behalf of his clients. He provides information to campaigns looking for votes and money, and to nonprofit and advocacy organizations raising funds.
Political campaigns must pay for these services. Under a Federal Election Commission regulation, giving a mailing list or something similar to a campaign is considered an “in-kind contribution.”
So if Facebook gave the Obama campaign free access to this type of data when it normally does not do so for other entities – or usually charges for such access – then Facebook would appear to have violated the federal ban on in-kind contributions by a corporation.
And the Obama campaign may have violated the law by accepting such a corporate contribution.

Is there a ‘blue wave’ out there?
In a week, we’ve seen two polls that tell me that the “blue wave” may not be much of a wave at all. I understand that this is March and the election is in November. However, shouldn’t we be seeing different numbers if a wave was forming out there?
The Democratic edge in the new generic vote, is 5 according to Fox. The number is actually similar to the last four polls that have it between 3 and 6. I hear that you have to be over 10 to make it a wave. We will wait for the next round of polls.
A second NBC poll is rather interesting: 58 percent say that gun ownership increases safety!
The poll about gun ownership is rather amazing given the one-sided, in the tank coverage from so much of the media. In fact, I hope that you weren’t stuck in an airport Saturday and had to watch CNN’s wall to wall reports about “the kids” marching around the country.
Another interesting point from this poll is this: 89% of Republicans and 65% of independents believe that gun ownership increases safety. That’s a lot of “indies,” as my political consultant friend likes to say!
What does this have to do with the midterms? Well, you can’t make predictions in March, but I can say this: the Democrats will soon throw the anti-gun kids under the bus and focus on winning back the House, particualrly as regards all of those rural districts. It won’t be long before Democrats embrace candidates like pro-gun Connor Lamb of PA-18 and tell those kids “mission accomplished” and get back to class.
The “kids” will be heartbroken when the Democrats won’t answer their texts this coming summer.

In 1998, Pres. Clinton couldn't get the UN Security Council to take Iraq seriously. The UN treated him and the US with the same lack of seriousness that greeted Sec. Powell and Pres. Bush in 2003.
Pres. Clinton had one ally. His name was PM Tony Blair. It was US and UK planes that bombed Iraq.
Today, it is PM Blair who is willing to stand up and face the music. It'd be a lot easier for PM Blair to join the other Europeans and stick his head in the sand.
PM Blair is a good man and we are grateful for him at a time like this.

About time a Catholic cardinal talked a little politics
My wonderful Cuban mother had a great expression as we were growing up: “Nunca es tarde para decir la verdad,” or it’s never too late to tell the truth.
As a Catholic, I’ve been waiting for this for quite some time. After all, how can any Catholic (or any human being) vote for a political party that will not say no to abortion after 20 weeks? What are we, Cuba or North Korea?
So it’s nice to finally see a leader of the U.S. Catholic Church put it on the line and stand for something. This is from Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s op-ed via Hot Air:
The two causes so vigorously promoted by Hughes and Grier – the needs of poor and middle-class children in Catholic schools, and the right to life of the baby in the womb – largely have been rejected by the party of our youth.An esteemed pro-life Democrat in Illinois, Rep. Dan Lipinski, effectively was blacklisted by his own party.Last year, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez insisted that pro-life candidates have no place in the modern Democratic Party.It is particularly chilly for us here in the state Hughes and Grier proudly called their earthly home. In recent years, some Democrats in the New York state Assembly repeatedly blocked education tax credit legislation, which would have helped middle-class and low-income families make the choice to select Catholic or other nonpublic schools for their children.Opposing the bill reduces the ability of fine Catholic schools across the state to continue their mission of serving the poor, many of them immigrants.More sobering, what is already the most radical abortion license in the country may soon be even more morbidly expanded.For instance, under the proposed Reproductive Health Act, doctors would not be required to care for a baby who survives an abortion. The newborn simply would be allowed to die without any legal implications.And abortions would be legal up to the moment of birth.
This is great. It would be even greater if this letter were read at every Mass across the country. It would be really be meaningful if a Spanish version were read at the many Spanish masses across the nation.
It’s time to unmask the Democrat Party as the party of death.
Keep talking, leaders of the Catholic Church. Abortion is a crime, and it is also devaluing the meaning of life in the country.
