Colombia & Venezuela: A couple of countries to watch

We've said it before and repeat it here:  The Obama administration does not have a Latin America policy!

I would argue that Pres BO is totally indifferent about Latin America.

Let's start with Colombia, a nation that has recovered from almost 20 years of mindless violence and brutal cartels.

Pres Santos has created a little controversy with his decision to negotiate with the guerrillas.  Colombians are naturally outraged because FARC is a terrorist organization.

Let's go to Venezuela, a nation about to hold elections in a few weeks.  There are very serious concerns that President Chavez will play games with the elections and throw the country into chaos.

Venezuela matters for three reasons:

1) It is an oil country;

2) Chavez has opened very serious contacts with Iran;  and,

3) It has an important geographic position.

Therefore, it is essential that the Obama administration takes a clear policy about Venezuela and will defend the integrity of the elections.  I agree with Ray Walser with this.
