Take a minute and read about the 1800 presidential election between challenger Thomas Jefferson & Pres John Adams. It was very nasty: The Election of 1800: The Birth of Negative Campaigning in the U.S.
It got so bad in 1800 that retired First Lady Martha Washington called Jefferson: "......“one of the most detestable of mankind.”"
The 2012 GOP primary is really driving me crazy with candidates complaining about advertising: Newt: Romney camp is 'dirty and dishonest')
Sorry but that's the way campaigns are. Also, this is nothing compared to what waits the GOP nominee in the fall. So get ready because this is Disneyland compared to what lies ahead.
Last, but not least, I hate these PACs because they are totally unaccountable to the candidate. We need to throw these campaign laws in the trash and replace them with a simple standard: Contribute & disclose.
In other words, let people invest as much as they want BUT force the campaign to disclose the name of the contributor & amount contributed.
Nevertheless, we are where we are. We have a lousy and dishonest system that allows unarmed people to attack without accountability.
