We remember Tony Cloninger (1940-2018)

We remember Tony Cloninger who was born in North Carolina on this day in 1940.  He died in 2018.

Tony broke in the NL with the Milwaukee Braves in 1961.  He won 19 in 1964 and 24 in 1965.


Then he was the opening day starter for the Braves when they moved to  Atlanta.   

We remember Tony for winning 113 games (86 with Braves) and hitting two grand slams in a game at San Francisco.  Tony had 9 RBI with 3 hits.  He hit 5 HR of his 11 career HR that season.

Tony retired in 1972 and worked as a pitching coach for several organizations.
