We remember Tony Lazzeri (1903-46) of the 1927 Yankees


We remember Tony Lazzeri, a member of the 1927 New York Yankees.     He was born in New York on this day in 1903.   He died in 1946.

Lazzeri broke with the Yankees in 1926:  .275, 18 HR & 117 RBI.    He played with the Yankees for 12 seasons and then finished with the Giants for a couple of years.

Overall, he hit .292 with 1,194 RBI.      He was the second baseman for the 1927 Yankees, or the team considered the greatest of all time.   Tony also played in 5 World Series championship teams between 1927 and 1937.

In 1991, the Veterans Committee selected Lazzeri to The Hall of Fame.
