Remembering the '96 Rangers

From 1972 to 1996, the Rangers' fans waited for a post season berth. They had a chance in '74 but finished second to the A's.

In '81, the strike killed the Rangers.  On June 11th, Fergie Jenkins blew a 3-1 lead and lost to the Brewers, 6-3.     Texas would have clinched the first half title if they had won that game.

I moved to the Dallas area in '84 and slowly developed an interest in my new home team.

In '86, the Rangers put on quite a fight but finished second to the Angels.

In '93, they tried again but finished second to the White Sox.

Finally, it happened in '96. They clinched it on the 160th game. I remember staying up for that one!

My favorite player from the '96 team was Rusty Greer, a .305 lifetime hitter who retired because of injuries.
