Wanted: Presidential leadership not history lessons

(MY NEW AMERICAN THINKER POST)

Like that famous song goes, "to everything there is a season."  And this is not the season for a history teacher in the Oval Office!

A few days ago, ISIS set a POW on fire and then put it on video for all the world to see.  A few days before, they beheaded a journalist.  A bit before that, they killed kids and enslaved young girls.

So what is President Obama doing talking about the Crusades or Spanish Inquisition or slavery in the U.S.?

Am I the only one who thinks that this speech should have been read by an adult before the president went to the Prayer Breakfast?

I agree with Jonah Goldberg:
When Obama alludes to the evils of medieval Christianity, he fails to acknowledge the key word: “medieval.” What made medieval Christianity backward wasn’t Christianity but medievalism.
It is perverse that Obama feels compelled to lecture the West about not getting too judgmental on our “high horse” over radical Islam’s medieval barbarism in 2015 because of Christianity’s medieval barbarism in 1215.
It’s also insipidly hypocritical. President Obama can’t bring himself to call the Islamic State “Islamic,” but he’s happy to offer a sermon about Christianity’s alleged crimes at the beginning of the last millennium.
We are all descended from cavemen who broke the skulls of their enemies with rocks for fun or profit. But that hardly mitigates the crimes of a man who does the same thing today. I see no problem judging the behavior of the Islamic State and its apologists from the vantage point of the West’s high horse, because we’ve earned the right to sit in that saddle.
So why the speech?  Why give a speech like at this at a time when Jordan is dropping bombs on ISIS?

I cannot read President Obama's mind, but I think that he is torn by reality, or the way that his "hope and change" nonsense has crashed with reality.

How does he explain that he will probably have to send troops back to Iraq and open up Gitmo to some new detainees?  How does he tell his supporters that this is a real war against real enemies?

On January 20, 2017, President Obama will likely catch a plane to Chicago with U.S. troops fighting in Iraq and leaving his successor a much bigger foreign policy mess than he inherited.

So why is talking about the Crusades?  My guess is that talking about reality is very hard.  After all, this is a man elected on the basis of slogans and a view of the world that does not add up.
