Dear Justice Thomas. I know just how you feel. Many blacks
don't think that he is a black because he is a conservative and doesn't dance to
the rhythms of Jackson & Sharpton!
Gov Richardson, the son of an American man and Mexican woman,
does not think that Senator Cruz, the son of a Cuban immigrant and American
mother, is Hispanic.
What am I missing here?
Governor Richardson said this on Sunday:
"ABC News: Do you think he
represents most Hispanics with his politics?
“No, no. He’s anti-immigration. Almost every Hispanic in the country wants to see immigration reform. No, I don’t think he should be defined as a Hispanic. He’s a politician from Texas. A conservative state. And I respect Texas’ choice. But what I don’t like is… when you try to get things done, it’s okay to be strong and state your views, your ideology. But I’ve seen him demean the office, be rude to other senators, not be part of, I think, the civility that is really needed in Washington.”" (ABC News)

Again, what is Gov Richardson
talking about?
I think that he is saying that
Senator Cruz does not qualify as Hispanic because he is a
conservative.
So is that the new standard for
being a Hispanic now?
Actually, it is Gov Richardson
who is "demeaning" and violating "civility".
He is saying that Hispanic is a
political ideology not an ethnic group. In other words, we are all Hispanics if
we voted for Obama and "not-Hispanics" if we had the good sense to vote for
Romney.
This is insulting and sends the
wrong message to young Hispanics. It's the "plantation" thinking of the old
South. Play by the rules or we will send the dogs out for
you.
So why would Gov Richardson say
something like that? The answer is to change the subject from the total and
complete indifference of the Obama administration toward
Hispanics.
It is politically more
convenient to distract Hispanics with Senator Cruz' ethnicity than to explain
the very high Hispanic unemployment rate under President Obama!
Or, to explain why President
Obama did not propose immigration when he had control of both the Senate or
House.
Or, why the Senate Democrats
have never put an immigration reform bill to a vote.
President Obama and the
Democrats have never delivered on immigration. Gov Richardson, and many
Democrats, are hoping that "hispanos" will forget about that with senseless
attacks on the authenticity of another Hispanic.
I guess that keeping Hispanics
distracted with nonsense is the mission of the Democrat Party these
days!
