Good news about Pres Bush-41

We got good news about Pres Bush:

"Former President George H.W. Bush has been moved out of the intensive care unit and into a regular patient room at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

"President Bush's condition has improved, so he has been moved today from the intensive care unit to a regular patient room at The Methodist Hospital to continue his recovery. The Bushes thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes," a family spokesman said Saturday.

"The president is alert, and as always, in good spirits," Jim McGrath said on Friday. He was reportedly singing with the medical staff.

He said physicians are "cautiously optimistic that the current course of treatment will be effective."

The 88-year-old has been hospitalized since Nov. 23. He was moved into intensive care on Sunday for treatment of a fever following a bronchitis-related cough."

On Sunday, I found that picture from years ago when I met Pres Bush.  It happened when Pres Bush visited Dallas to greet some of his supporters.  I had worked with other Hispanics in Texas during the '88 election.
My recollection is that Pres Bush was very nice, a real gentleman.  We joked about Cuba and he told me about his son in Florida.  (He was talking about Jeb, or the future governor of Florida)
Very nice moment.  Of course, the best news is that Pres Bush is improving and may go home soon.

Taxes going up? Blame the "low information voters" who reelected Pres Obama!

Pres BO, and many in the media, are avoiding the reality of January 1st.  The fact is that taxes are going up and it has nothing to do with "the fiscal cliff".  It has everything to do with Obama-Care, the single most irresponsible & expensive piece of legislation in US history.

This is a sample of the taxes going up from Americans for Tax Reform:

"Obamacare contains twenty new or higher taxes. Five of the taxes hit for the first time on January 1.  In total, Americans face a net $1 trillion tax hike for the years 2013-2022, according to the Congressional Budget Office."

We will soon see:

1) "Medical Device Tax:  Medical device manufacturers employ 409,000 people in 12,000 plants across the country. Obamacare imposes a new 2.3 percent excise tax on gross sales – even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year.  In addition to killing small business jobs and impacting research and development budgets, this will increase the cost of your health care – making everything from pacemakers to artificial hips more expensive."

2) "The 30-35 million Americans who use a pre-tax Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at work to pay for their family’s basic medical needs will face a new government cap of $2500. This will squeeze $13 billion of tax money from Americans over the next ten years. (Currently, the accounts are unlimited under federal law, though employers are allowed to set a cap.)"

3) "The Obamacare Surtax on Investment Income: This is a new, 3.8 percentage point surtax on investment income earned in households making at least $250,000 ($200,000 single)."

And there are others.

Of course, the Obama "spin" is that the rich will pay more, or their "fair share".  In fact, the rich won't pay more.  They will invest less, hire fewer people and move their dollars to tax shelters overseas.

Again, don't blame me because I voted for Romney.  Blame that "low information voter" who voted for Obama because he is "hip" or "cool".

A dysfunctional government brought to you by 'low information voters'

This is my new post at American Thinker

The news that TIME named President Obama as "person of the year" was no shock.  I'm sure that Governor Romney would have been selected if he had won the election.

The most interesting part of the article naming President Obama was a paragraph in the 2nd page:

"Few experts predicted two years ago that Obama would be busy writing his second Inaugural Address. Pre-election polling showed depressed enthusiasm among young people and Latinos, for example, amid soaring interest among white evangelicals and the elderly. But the poll questions did not account for Obama's secret weapon: the people who don't much care for politics. A sizable chunk of the President's most ardent backers don't admire either party yet think Obama is somehow above it all, immune to all the horse trading and favor mongering that politics entails. These voters aren't political in the cable-TV sense of the word. But in 2012, they stuck by Obama. In the last month of the Obama campaign's voter registration, 70% of those signed up were women, minorities or people under 30."

By the way, put me down as one of those who logically looked at voter registration among Hispanics and predicted a low turnout.

Also, put me down as someone who predicted a 51-48% Romney victory.  I just made the logical conclusion that the voters would reject a man who has been such a lousy executive, from bringing people together to forcing Senate Democrats to pass a budget to getting his own party to send him an immigration reform bill.

Yes, I was wrong or just too logical.  President Obama had a dismal record but that does not matter anymore that "low information voters" get their impressions on "The view", MTV and Letterman.

Yes, President Obama was reelected by people who do not follow politics or care much about it.  He was reelected because the campaign was able to connect with voters who don't have a clue, not even a clue of what President Obama stands for.

For example, the TIME article pointed out that Obama got 71% of the Hispanic vote.  At the same time, President Obama never sent Congress a proposal or ever address the nation on TV as President Bush did.

The direct consequence of having "low information voters" decide the election is evident in the "fiscal cliff" negotiations.

We see a president who feels immune from accountability.  He knows that the media will cover for him and the "low information voters" will stand by their man.

We can only hope that the "low information voters" go back to sleep or stay home the next time around.

It's Bush's fault: Pres BO & Dem Senate will continue his wiretapping policies

Another victory for W, or the man who used to be accused of raping the Constitution and make us so unpopular with "the sophisticated" class of Europe.

Yesterday, the US Senate voted 73-23 to continue the policies of Pres Bush:

"Congress approved a measure Friday that would renew expansive U.S. surveillance authority for five more years, rejecting objections from senators who are concerned the legislation does not adequately protect Americans’ privacy.

The bill passed the Senate 73 to 23…

The lopsided Senate vote authorized a continuation of the government’s ability to eavesdrop on communications inside the United States involving foreign citizens without obtaining a specific warrant for each case."

By the way, the House passed a similar bill and Pres BO is expected to sign it Monday.

My reaction is a combination of joy and anger.

First, thank God that there is sanity in the Dem Senate.   The Dems are certainly a lot less concerned about the "rights" of terrorists now that they run the government.   Remember closing GITMO or having "unconditional meetings" with "the low life" of the world?

Second, aren't the Dems a bunch of hypocritical jerks?  Who is going to apologize to Pres Bush or VP Cheney.

Third, where are the marches?  Were are the "Pink Ladies"?  Where is the international left now that Obama is Bush?

Fourth, will the "intelligent" people at The Nobel Peace Prize committee ask Pres BO to return it?  He has betrayed all of those promises to reverse the Bush policies that the "intellegent" and "sophisticated" Europeans hated so much.

God bless George W Bush and he had the political toughness to do the right thing and not listen to people like Senator Barrack Obama!

Let's trade Sotomayor for that French judge!

Good news from France and Europe:

"France's Constitutional Council on Saturday rejected a 75 percent upper income tax rate to be introduced in 2013 in a setback to Socialist President Francois Hollande's push to make the rich contribute more to cutting the public deficit."

WOW!  Somebody in France woke up on the right of the bed this morning.  Or maybe common sense is finally starting to prevail over there.

There are probably constitutional reasons for overturning a law that targets the rich in France.  After all, this is no longer Marie Antoinette's France!

There are also sound economic reasons for stopping this "class warfare" and madness of going after the rich.   It makes no sense to go after those who work and create jobs.  They may decide to leave the country, as so many already have.

A few days ago, our Justice Sotomayor ".....rejected an emergency request for an injunction to prevent HHS from enforcing the contraception mandate on Hobby Lobby’s Catholic owner..."

Let's send Sotomayor to Paris and bring that French judge here!

No hockey (or hockey fights) is a bummer this winter in Dallas

In recent years, we've had a perfect sports year for DFW fans.

From the Rangers to the Cowboys to college football to the Mavericks to college basketball and to the Stars.

We've something to watch or follow just about every night.

Unfortunately, the "circle was broken" again this year with another NHL labor dispute.

Frankly, I get what both sides are angry about.  The owners need some concessions because the NHL does not have the big TV contract that other sports have.  Also, the owners "overexpanded" and there are simply too many teams in too many places without a hockey heritage.

On the other hand the players are the stars.  Fans pay to watch them not the owners.  I can't blame players for seeking the best deal that they can get.

Sadly, the fans are just watching this 'labor fight' rather than our heroes with hockey sticks and "punching" for real.

It's a bummer, a mess and I hope that someone breaks the deadlock.

P.S. Enjoy a little history:

Obama like Evita

This is my new post at American Thinker:

A few weeks ago, I watched the movie "Evita", a musical story about the late First Lady of Argentina.  It was fun, enjoyable and very eerie.  It reminded me of President Obama.

First, Evita told everyone what they wanted to hear. She sold the Argentine people an unsustainable list of promises. It got her husband reelected but it also wrecked the country.

Second, she "walked on water" for her supporters. She was "Saint Evita" for millions of people who wanted something to believe in. At the end of the day, she got people to vote for her husband (President Peron) by demonizing the opposition and scaring voters.  (Does that sound familiar?)

Third, she campaigned for her husband (the aforementioned President Peron) by making promises no one could keep, telling the unfortunate that a fortune was around the corner, and getting a free ride from a media madly in love with her too.  (Again does that sound familiar?)

There is a lot of "Evita" in Obama, especially the personality cult of so many of their supporters and the willingness of so many to overlook "results or performance".

I am just hoping that the people of the US are smarter than those of Argentina. Unfortunately, Argentina is still paying the price of Peron's populism sold to the masses by Evita's charm.

Where is Sec of State Clinton?

Our friend Bill Katz of Urgent Agenda has a good post today on the whereabouts of Sec of State Clinton:

"Of course, it's possible that Clinton will run out the clock and leave office before she has to testify before Congress about Benghazi.  However, as I understand it, she could still be subpoenaed, and would still be under oath.

If she's seriously ill, we the people have a right to know about it.  She's the highest-ranking member of the Cabinet and fourth in line for the presidency.

Does the media have questions?  Or don't we question the queen?"

Bill is right.  We need to know more about what happened in Libya 3 months ago.  We lost 4 citizens, including the US Ambassador.

There are serious questions still waiting for an answer.

First, why didn't we try to rescue these men under attack at the US facility?

Second, who told Amb Rice to go out and peddle the video story?  Why was Pres BO peddling the same story for weeks?

Third, where was Pres BO during the attack?  Was he told about the attack?

My guess is that Sec Clinton will speak next week or right before Sec Kerry is confirmed.  It won't be a pretty meeting and we will learn a lot about a very ugly incident.

Get well President Bush!

We just learned that Pres G H W Bush will be in the hospital a bit longer:

"A “stubborn” fever that kept former President George H.W. Bush in a hospital over Christmas has gotten worse, and doctors have put him on a liquids-only diet, his spokesman said Wednesday.

Jim McGrath, Bush’s spokesman in Houston, had said earlier in the day that the fever had gone away, but he later corrected himself.
“It’s an elevated fever, so it’s actually gone up in the last day or two,” McGrath told The Associated Press. “It’s a stubborn fever that won’t go away.”

Doctors at Methodist Hospital in Houston have run tests and are treating the fever with Tylenol, but they still haven’t nailed down a cause, McGrath said. Doctors also have put Bush on a liquid diet, though McGrath could not say why.

The bronchitis-like cough that initially brought Bush to the hospital on Nov. 23 has improved, McGrath said. The 88-year-old is now coughing about once a day, he said.

Bush was visited on Christmas by his wife, Barbara, his son, Neil, and Neil’s wife, Maria, and a grandson, McGrath said. Bush’s daughter, Dorothy, will arrive Wednesday in Houston from Bethesda, Md. The 41st president has also been visited twice by his sons, George W. Bush, the 43rd president, and Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida."

We are hoping that Pres Bush recovers and goes home.  We want him fit and ready so that he can attend the first Rangers-Astros baseball game in April.  Texas will open the 2013 season in Houston!  We are hoping that Pres GHW Bush will throw the first pitch now that Houston and Texas will be rivals in the AL West.

Kerry nomination proves Obama doesn't understand Latin America

This is my new post at American Thinker!

Last spring, President Obama attended a meeting of Latin American leaders. We remember that meeting because of the Secret Service scandal. It was also the meeting when Latin American leaders complained that the Obama administration does not have a policy toward the region.

I was very happy to see that Mary Anastasia O'Grady of The Wall Street Journal posted an article about the nomination of Sen Kerry to be Secretary of State. She pointed out that Sen Kerry has been on the "left" side of every major event in the last 40 years:
"Mr. Kerry's record of promoting American values abroad is dismal. It isn't that he opposes U.S. intervention-far from it. The trouble is that he has a habit of intervening on behalf of bad guys. A left-wing world view and an earnest conviction that it is his destiny to impose it on others may make him a perfect fit in the Obama cabinet. But it won't be good for poor countries or for U.S. interests."
* Mr Kerry supported "the Sandinistas" over "the Contras".
* In Honduras '09, Mr Kerry supported Sr. Zelaya, an ally of Chavez, trying to violate the country's constitution.
* Add to this Mr Kerry's opposition to free trade agreements, from the very successful NAFTA to Colombia, Chile, etc.

Mr Kerry will be our next Secretary of State. They will probably cheer in Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela and scratch their heads in Mexico, Colombia and Chile.

Like the president, Sen Kerry has a "Peace Corps" view of Latin America. They are still living in the 1950s and thinking that we need another version of "The Good Neighbor Policy".

However, most of Latin America is living in the 21st century signing free trade agreements and developing a middle class. They want to do business with the US and anybody else (like Canada) who will buy their resources. The countries of Latin America are not afraid of Marines landing on their shores but rather a continuation of the president's indifference toward the region. They don't want "Yankee go home" but instead "Yankee do business with us!"

Yes, it is now confirmed: the president does not understand Latin America. He has just nominated Sen Kerry to be our next Secretary of State. We will probably spend the next four years hearing about climate change rather more than trade with Latin America.

Kathy Rabczuk Bru one of the best people of 2012

Who doesn't love a great love story?

We learned this year about the story of Kathy Rabczuk Bru and her fiancee Juan Kudelka.

Unfortunately, Juan has been sitting in a Bolivian prison.

We are so proud of Kathy's efforts to fight for Juan.  It is really a great story.  I am happy that our radio show could tell her story to many others.

We pray that Juan and Kathy can be together soon.

Hillary's concussion PLUS the passing of Robert H Bork

Let me touch on a couple of topics today.

We just learned that Robert H Bork passed away.   Mr Bork was one of the best constitutional lawyers of our time.  His biggest mistake is that he believed in the real constitution NOT the one that finds abortion and other "rights".

Of course, he will be also remember for the political term "borked".  His nomination to the Supreme Court turned into a circus.  It was all about abortion!

Mr Bork also wrote a good book:  Slouching towards Gomorrah.  I hate to say it but Mr Bork turned out to be a prophet about the decline of the US.

His other book (The tempting of America) was about the aforementioned 1987 nomination.

Our second topic is the mystery of Sec Hillary Clinton's concussion.  Sec Clinton will not be testifying before Congress about the tragedy in Libya.   Her silence is a bit weird specially after the new report about what happened 3 months ago.

We will fondly remember Mr Bork and continue to wait for an explanation about the death of a US Ambassador and 3 other Americans.

Some thoughts about Mexico

Mexico has a lot to feel good about at the end of 2012:

a) the elections were clean and confirm the nation's political maturity.  In fact, Mexico's voter ID system can teach us a thing or two.  Mexico has one of the most developed and efficient voting mechanisms in the world;

b) the Mexican economy is pretty good.  The Economist recently had an editorial:  The rise of Mexico!  There are more and more signs that Mexicans are staying home rather going north to participate in the US economy.  Why come home and struggle in the Obama economy?  It makes a lot more sense to stay home and make a living.

At the same time, the violence is terrible and most Americans still have a negative view of the country.

Furthermore, the Obama administration has shown little interest in Mexico, or for that matter, Latin America.

Pres BO only talks about Mexico when he is pandering for the Mexican-American vote in the US.

Pres BO avoids Mexico when we are talking about free trade or an explanation of how 2,000 high powered weapons flew over the border and landed on the laps of the cartels.   We also learned today that another "Fast & Furious" gun was found at a murder site in Mexico!

It's time for Pres BO to get serious about Mexico.

Let's stop the "5 de Mayo" speeches and actually present an Obama immigration proposal.  (We have not seen one in 5 years)

Let's stop the speeches and call on Hollywood to stop glamorizing drug use in movies and culture.  Our demand for illegal drugs is funding the cartels.

Last, but not least, let's stop the nonsense and explain how the aforementioned weapons "flew" over the border.

Planning and sales goals for 2013 with David Tyson

We spoke with David Tyson, sales training consultant in DFW.   Our topic was planning and sales goals for 2013:

"Sandler Training® sales training does work, however.  That’s because our sales training is built around the concept of incremental growth and change over time.   Sandler Training sales training is supported by repetition, reinforcement, coaching and accountability.

At Sandler Training, we know that salespeople aren’t likely to implement a particular strategy or tactic unless it’s part of an overall behavioral plan. But, a behavior plan needs to be supported by the appropriate attitude and outlook. That’s why Sandler Training sales training addresses all three areas necessary for success—attitude, behavior and technique."

We don't need more gun laws!

We hear calls for more "gun control".   However, new gun laws is just a quick fix that doesn't address the root cause of the problems.

We have a cultural decay combined with a lack of seriousness about mental health.

First, what was this young man doing totally unsupervised?  It was obvious that he was a troubled young man with the potential for some very bad consequences.  Why wasn't this young man under some kind of supervision?

See this from John Fund"A lengthy study by Mother Jones magazine found that at least 38 of the 61 mass shooters in the past three decades “displayed signs of mental health problems prior to the killings.” New York Times columnist David Brooks and Cornell Law School professor William Jacobson have both suggested that the ACLU-inspired laws that make it so difficult to intervene and identify potentially dangerous people should be loosened.

“Will we address mental-health and educational-privacy laws, which instill fear of legal liability for reporting potentially violent mentally ill people to law enforcement?” asks Professor Jacobson.

“I doubt it.”

Second, why doesn't Pres BO call on his supporters in Hollywood to clean up movies?  Have you seen the way that Hollywood glamorizes violence?  Have we not desensitized our nation from violence with video games and movies that show gratuitous violence?

Third, what about abortion?  We abort 1,000,000 lives every year because they are not convenient.  Doesn't that have an impact on our culture too?

We already have gun laws.  It would be nice if we would talk about something beyond the quick fix of gun control.  It would be nice if the left would address the root problems, from a culture of death (abortion) and a society where too many boys are growing up without fathers.

Dem Senators objecting to medical device tax

This is my article posted at American Thinker.

Coincidence or malpractice?  The US media is now reporting daily about all of the "terms and hidden costs" of ObamaCare, known as The Affordable Health Care Act.

Calling ObamaCare the AHCA is like nominating Ozzie Gulllen to teach an anger management class.

We just learned yesterday that many Democratic Senators want to change one of the tax increases:

"Now, Minnesota's two Democrat Senators, Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar, are using "Republican" terminology to delay the 2.3% medical device tax scheduled to take effect on January 1st. For these Senators, the tax, which is supposed to raise $28 billion over the next decade to fund the law, is now a "job-killing tax" that will not only cost jobs but make it more difficult for American medical device manufacturers to be competitive and innovative.

It turns out Senators Franken and Klobuchar have been enlightened of these facts by medical device companies in their home state of Minnesota; they've joined 16 other Democrat Senators who now share the same view. In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, these Senators have asked for a delay in the medical device tax, but they are actually aiming for a full repeal of this part of the law."

My first question is a simple one:  Did these Senators read the bill?  Are they seriously telling us that they learned about this tax now?  What are all of these staffers doing with their time?
My second question is to US media:  Where in the hell were you?

We have just witnessed the most incredible display of media incompetence in recent US history.  The US media was willing to sit in the bleachers and fail to report the 9-11 tragedy in Libya and now the ObamaCare surprises.

Why didn't the media confront Pres BO about health care and the costs?  Why was he given a pass on all of this?

Before you get really mad, and I am mad, let's look at the bright side. There is a silver lining to this mess:  ObamaCare may collapse of its own weight, especially after Democrats come to terms with the reality that European-like entitlements come with European-like taxes!

Small business owners not happy

Who creates jobs in the US?  The answer is small businesses!

Therefore, it is very troubling to hear that small business owners are pessimistic about the future.  This is from National Federation of Independent Businesses:

"The most significant factor impacting the decline in optimism is the expectation that future business conditions will be worse than current ones. The net percent of owners expecting better business conditions in six months fell 37 points to a net negative 35 percent.

Not seasonally adjusted, 9 percent expect an improvement in business conditions (down 5 points), and 49 percent expect deterioration (up 30 points). Twenty-three percent reported “poor sales” as their top business problem, up 1 point.

Overall, this is a poisonous climate for investment and expansion.

Twenty-three (23) percent of owners still cite weak sales as their top business problem; this is historically high but down from the record 34 percent reading last reached in March 2010.

The net percent of owners expecting higher real sales fell 8 points to a negative five percent of all owners (seasonally adjusted), 17 points below the 2012 high of net 12 percent reached in February.

Not seasonally adjusted, 19 percent expect improvement over the next three months (down 6 points) and 43 percent expect declines (up 9 points).

The percent of owners planning capital outlays in the next three to six months fell 3 points to 19 percent.

Six percent of owners characterized the current period as a good time to expand facilities (down 1).

This compares to 14 percent of owners who felt positive about expansion in September 2007."

A poisonous climate for investment and expansion?

Do they understand in the White House just how negative the small business climate is?

Hispanics must recall the reason their parents came to America in the first place

This is my latest post on The American Thinker

"Put me down as one as a Cuban-American who voted for Romney.   Yes, we saw that "hope and change" movie before and it does not end well.

Trust me:  Very bad ending!  Just ask my parents and all of those Cubans who came here in the 1960s!

Today, I saw a poll that 77% of Latino voters support raising taxes on the rich.

Here is a message to the GOP:  Amnesty or immigration reform had nothing to do with Obama carrying Hispanos by a huge margin.

I will add that I've always supported a rational immigration reform that focuses on the economic needs of the US.  For example, I'm open to "work visas" for people who want to work here.  However, I do not believe in amnesty or legalizing people just because they crossed the border.  Our focus should be on all of those who respected our laws and sit in their countries waiting for their turn to come to the US.

Why do I say that immigration reform had nothing to do with Obama's reelection?

First, he never lifted a finger to do a thing about immigration reform. In fact, no immigration reform law has ever been passed by a Democratic president or Congress. They talk a good game but they never score!

Second, most Hispanos are buying into the "big government" fantasy funded by taxing the rich.

Here is my message to my fellow Hispanos:

Why did you or your parents leave Mexico and come here for jobs? The answer is that Mexico, and many other Latin American countries, have implemented the kind of class warfare that has driven money out of the country.

We don't need a GOP version of The Dream Act or some immigration reform based on pandering to Hispanics.

We need to slap Hispanos and wake them up from this "Obamamania" plague of "something for nothing" paid for by the rich.

Frankly, we need to remind them that the American Dream that they, or their parents, aspired to had nothing to do with "free stuff" or demonizing the rich.

No way. The American Dream that my parents came here for was "freedom," "self reliance" and "the rule of law".

We just need to remind them that taxing the rich will do to the US what it has done to their countries of origin.

P.S. With all due respect to Gov Romney, a man that I admire greatly, we need to go down to Hispanic districts and deliver our message. We can't win elections by assuming that Hispanos won't register or show up to vote.
