Donald Trump is not Jimmy Carter

 (My new American Thinker post)

Back in 1975, a man from Georgia decided to run for president.  In fact, I remember watching him on a morning local show on Channel 5 in Washington, D.C.  Nobody knew him.  He seemed like a long shot.

Jimmy Carter's #1 job was to let people know who he was.  So he started early; accepted every TV or radio invitation interview; spoke at the Rotary Club, the women's clubs, and every other place that needled a speaker.  It was "get to know Jimmy time," and it got him to the primary debates.  The rest, and President Ford's debate comment about Poland, is history.

President Trump is in a different place.  Everybody knows him.  In fact, I'd argue that he suffers from a case of self-inflicted saturation.  I have not seen such a case of saturation since The Bee Gees and "Stayin' Alive" on the radio.

Who thought it was a good idea to jump in two years before people vote in 2024?  I don't get it.

Why not leave President Biden on the front pages for the next nine months?  By all accounts, the U.S. economy won't be helping the current president.  The contentious issues are not going away, from the border mess the cost of energy.  The crazy left won't let up on the Democrats.  Foreign policy is a mess.

Does anyone believe that the border is secure, as DHS secretary Mayorkas just said again?  Even Beto O'Rourke slammed Biden on immigration.

Why share the front page with a failing Biden presidency?  Why give the news media an excuse to talk about Trump rather than Biden?

Before you call me a NeverTrump, let me assure that my mind is open about Trump 2024.  He gave a substantive speech, but it lasted too long.  I just have a beef here with the timing of the announcement.  Unlike the aforementioned Carter, Trump has all the name recognition he needs.  Don't waste it in 2023.

Happy # 89 Orlando Peña

Orlando Peña was born in Victoria de las Tunas on this day in 1933.   He is part of a shrinking number of Cuban players who played in the pre-Castro pro league in island and the major leagues.

Orlando broke with the Reds in 1958 and was traded to the Kansas City A’s where he became a regular starting pitcher.
There were several other Cubans in the 1963 A’s:   Hector Martinez, Aurelio Monteagudo, Jose Tartabull, Joe Azcue & Diego Segui.
Unfortunately, the A’s had very bad teams but Orlando did win 34 games over 3 and a half seasons.   He had 184 strikeouts in 1964 to finish 6th in the AL.
He bounced around after that and I remember watching him with the Orioles in 1973.
Happy birthday Orlando Peña.

She said, trans said

(My new American Thinker post)

As my late mother used to say:  "El mundo esta mas loco todos los dias".   It loosely translates to the world gets crazier everyday.

Check this out from National Review:

Trans activists disrupted a protest to preserve women’s spaces at New York City Hall on Monday morning, threatening the assembled feminists and scuffling with police.

Soon after the protest began, counter-protesters crashed the “Let Women Speak” event and started pushing against a police barricade that was erected to protect the feminist demonstrators. The U.K.-based group — whose mission, according to its website, is to “foster a community in which all women feel empowered to speak” — held the Manhattan protest to cap off a fall tour of the U.S.

The NYPD confirmed to National Review that nine people were arrested amid the mayhem, with charges pending, though the department would not reveal whether those arrested were feminist protesters or transgender activists intent on disrupting the event.

The trans side distributed leaflets ginning up counter-protests:  The "Let Women Speak" feminist side, aka, "Team reality."

The event was not very ladylike, or at least not how I was raised to treat ladies.  For example, a "trans" yelled a 4-letter word obscenity at a woman on the other side of the march.  As you would expect, the trans vocabulary included references to Nazis, fascists, racists etc.  I cannot confirm it but I'm pretty sure that someone was accused of voting for Trump.

The clash gave us some killer quotes:

“Females are not a gender identity, get it through your damn heads,” a feminist protester said into a microphone behind the wall of police."

The followup was just as good:

“I do not have empathy for men who lie about their sex. You’re a man and you’ll always be.”

Well, some good banter for sure.  Also, further evidence of what happens to a society that can't define what a man and a woman are.  It used to very simple, but it’s a lot more complicated lately.   After all, what do you expect would happen if a Supreme Court Justice cannot define what a woman is because she is not a biologist?  Who knew that you had to be a biologist to know what a woman is?

Don't you miss the good old days when you'd argue with your liberal friends about national security and economic policy?  Those were the days, my friend.  It's all about gender and climate change with the other side these days.
