My church in crisis……..

Image result for vatican images
On Sunday, we attended mass, took communion and enjoyed coffee and donuts with fellow parishioners afterwards.
It didn’t feel right.  There was tension in the air and everyone knew that our church is in crisis.
The latest bomb goes right to the top or to Pope Francis himself:
In an extraordinary 11-page written testament, a former apostolic nuncio to the United States has accused several senior prelates of complicity in covering up Archbishop Theodore McCarrick’s allegations of sexual abuse, and has claimed that Pope Francis knew about sanctions imposed on then-Cardinal McCarrick by Pope Benedict XVI but chose to repeal them.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, 77, who served as apostolic nuncio in Washington D.C. from 2011 to 2016, said that in the late 2000s, Benedict had “imposed on Cardinal McCarrick sanctions similar to those now imposed on him by Pope Francis” and that Viganò personally told Pope Francis about those sanctions in 2013.
Archbishop Viganò said in his written statement… that Pope Francis “continued to cover” for McCarrick and not only did he “not take into account the sanctions that Pope Benedict had imposed on him” but also made McCarrick “his trusted counselor.”  Viganò said that the former archbishop of Washington advised the Pope to appoint a number of bishops in the United States, including Cardinals Blase Cupich of Chicago and Joseph Tobin of Newark.
Archbishop Viganò, who said his “conscience dictates” that the truth be known as “the corruption has reached the very top of the Church’s hierarchy,” ended his testimony by calling on Pope Francis and all of those implicated in the cover up of Archbishop McCarrick’s abuse to resign.
We call that allegation the Catholic version of a bombshell!
Pope Francis is not helping by remaining silent.  I understand that you don’t want the Pope getting into a media battle of words with a nuncio but a little statement would be nice.  Maybe a “tweet” denying everything would help!
As I mentioned to a friend after mass, our Church faces two challenges:
1) We don’t understand how social media can take an allegation around the world in seconds.  Millions saw the Drudge links on Sunday and the church did not answer any of them.  We need the equivalent of Clinton’s “war room” to counter every attack as soon as they are made.
2) Despite previous scandals, we did not implement “zero tolerance” policies everywhere.  To be fair, our archdiocese did and a priest was recently put on leave for inappropriate behavior (not with kids thankfully).
Where does this go?  The Vatican needs to come clean and put everything on the table.  Unlock the files and admit everything.  At this point, covering up behavior will only sink the Vatican further in the hole.
So come clean, Pope Francis.  Clean house and show the faithfull that you are in charge.
This is a lot worse than climate change and income distribution.

How did the Jacksonville killer pass a background check?

Once again, we hear the "we need gun laws" refrain.

How did the Jacksonville killer pass a background check?

We've learned that the young man had been treated for mental illness, according to news reports:
The suspect in a deadly shooting at a Florida video game tournament had previously been hospitalized for mental illness, according to court records in his home state of Maryland reviewed by The Associated Press.
Divorce filings from the parents of 24-year-old David Katz of Baltimore say that as an adolescent he was twice hospitalized in psychiatric facilities and was prescribed antipsychotic and antidepressant medications.
The records show Katz’s parents disagreed on how to care for their troubled son, with his father claiming his estranged wife was exaggerating symptoms of mental illness as part of their long and bitter custody battle. The couple divorced in 2007.
So we want new laws?  Why aren't we enforcing the laws we have?  Why is a young man with mental health story allowed to buy a gun?

And then we see this............

And then we see this:

"Americans’ consumer confidence rose in August to the highest level in nearly 18 years as their assessment of current conditions improved further and their expectations about the future rebounded.

The Conference Board reported Tuesday that its consumer confidence index rose to 133.4 in August, up from a reading 127.9 in July.

It was the highest reading since confidence stood at 135.8 in October 2000.

Consumers’ confidence in their ability to get a job and the overall economy are seen as important indicators of how freely they will spend, especially on big-ticket items such as cars, in coming months.

Consumer spending accounts for 70 percent of economic activity." (AP)

This is further confirmation that the public thinks that the country is in the right direction.

May 2009: Texas beat Boston College in 25 innings!

Image result for longhorns baseball images

A post from May 2009:

Last night, the Texas Longhorns and Boston College played the greatest baseball game in NCAA history.

This is the most amazing game around here since the Stars beat Buffalo in triple overtime to win the 1998-99 Stanley Cup!

Now, here is the unbelievable "rest of the story".

Austin Wood, a senior left hander, had the greatest pitching performance since Harvey Haddix in 1959:
"The Longhorns left-hander entered the game with one out and a runner on second base in the seventh inning and proceeded to pitch 12.1 innings before yielding a hit.

For the game, Wood pitched 13.0 scoreless innings, scattering two hits and four walks while striking out a career-high 14.

He logged 169 pitches on the evening."
I hope that they sent Austin Wood's jersey to the NCAA Hall of Fame and Cooperstown.

Can you believe 169 pitches and 12 innings without giving up a hit?

Congratulations to Austin Wood and the Longhorns!

It's always an "...ism" with the left......

Image result for room temperature clip art images

It's always an "...ism" with the left.   Check this nonsense out:
"Cynthia Nixon's team cites sexism over room temperature ahead of Cuomo debate...."
Frankly, I don't like Governor Cuomo or Miss Nixon but this is a joke.  By the way, Mr. Cuomo is leading 60% to 29% in a recent poll.

Crisis in 3 countries that have a border with Venezuela,.......

Image result for venezuela map images

We have a humanitarian crisis in 3 countries that have a border with Venezuela, according to news reports:
"Top immigration officials from Peru, Colombia and Brazil met in Colombian capital Bogota for a summit to discuss how to cope with the influx.
There are close to 1 million Venezuelans now living in Colombia and more than 400,000 in Peru, the countries said in a joint statement after the meeting on Tuesday. Just 178,000 of those in Peru have legal permission to stay or are being processed."
What are these countries willing to do?  They can have meetings or demand President Maduro's resignation.

March 2008: Ohio is to blame for Ohio

Image result for obama clinton nafta cartoons

A post from March 2008

It's so easy to blame NAFTA for Ohio's economic problems. Just listen to Obama and Clinton. Yet, it's a lot more difficult for Clinton and Obama to explain how Texas is booming and Ohio isn't.

The WSJ has a great editorial entitled Texas v. Ohio:
"So tomorrow the eyes of America will be on these two states moving in different directions.

Ohio has an economy burdened by high taxes and work rules that impose heavy costs on employers.

Texas embraces free trade, keeps taxes low, doesn't impose unions on business and has tooled itself for 21st century global competition.

Ohioans may not like to hear this, but for any company considering where to locate a new plant or move an existing one, the choice between Ohio and Texas isn't even a close call.
The challenge for our national economy in a world of competition is to become more like Texas and less like Ohio."
Of course, we won't hear this from Obama and Clinton. They are busy pandering for votes in Ohio. Worse than that, they are not telling voters what it will really take turn Ohio around.

February 2008: Obama, Clinton and Mexico!

Image result for democrats nafta cartoons

It's getting really crowded down the left field corner.

Obama and Clinton are fighting like wild cats for the left wing corner of US politics.

It seems that everybody wants to play left field in the modern Dem party!

Obama was always very populist. Lately, Clinton has joined him! They are both sounding a lot like each other on NAFTA!

A couple of months ago, Clinton and Obama were arguing about who would get out of Iraq quicker. Now, they are fighting for the populist throne on economics.

Here is the problem: What are Obama and Clinton offering? Actually nothing!

They are simply making protectionist statements to win union approval in places like Ohio.

November 2007: The incredible Naomi Wolf

Image result for bush derangement syndrome images

A post from November 2007:

Naomi Wolf is going around saying that Bush is a Hitler-fascist. She adds that Bush-Cheney have turned the US into some Nazi police state. (Fascist America, in 10 easy steps)

I should add that Naomi is part of a left wing movement totally out of control.

By the way, Miss Wolf (or is it Ms. Wolf) is not a political virgin. She was an adviser to Pres. Clinton's reelection and worked as a consultant to VP Gore's campaign. She is well known for allegedly advising VP Gore to look more "male", a reference to the electoral fact that men vote Republican in overwhelming numbers!

I guess that Naomi was concerned that VP Gore did not come across as an "alpha male" to all of those southern and mountain states' women who don't care for "wimpy" men!

My point is that Naomi is not some civil libertarian who woke up one morning and discovered that Bush is a fascist.

She is a partisan who conveniently overlooked what Pres. Clinton did and finds criticism in everything that Pres. Bush does!

Back to Naomi and the police state. What is Naomi putting in her coffee, tea or whatever else she drinks?

Where was Naomi when Pres. Clinton created secret prisons to hold terrorists? (Clinton Created Secret CIA Prisons)

Where was Naomi when Pres. Clinton signed an executive order saying that FISA did not apply to him? (Clinton Claimed Authority to Order No-Warrant Searches: Does anyone remember that? by Byron York) Bush and Clinton had the same view of FISA but the anti-Bushies don't admit it! They kept their silence in the 1990s and blew their top when it was announced that Bush was authorizing the NSA to listen to the calls!

Again, Pres. Clinton was right. FISA and The War Powers Act were legislative intrusions on executive powers. The Constitution makes the president our commander in chief. We don't need legislative interventions on his responsibilities to defend the nation. Under Article 2, the president has the right, and duty, to listen to what our enemy is saying. Just read about Lincoln, Wilson, FDR and Truman!

Where was Naomi when Pres. Clinton sent troops unilaterally into Haiti or Bosnia? Just asking!

Where was Naomi when Pres. Clinton bombed Iraq because no one at the UN (except for PM Blair of the UK) cared that Saddam Hussein kicked out the inspectors in 1998? Again, I'm just asking and looking for some consistency!

I guess that Naomi took a very partisan nap through the 1990s!

Frankly, where was Naomi when Pres. Clinton used our military without going to Congress?

Pres. Bush, like his father in 1990, went to Congress in Oct' 02 and got a resolution that was strongly supported by the likes of John Edwards and Hillary Clinton!

Last, but not least, where was feminist Naomi when Pres. Clinton used public resources to destroy Monica Lewsinski for saying that she had "whatever the two had" in the Oval Office? What would have happened to Monica if she had not saved her "blue dress"?

Again, Naomi slept through the 90s!

Back to the very partisan Naomi Wolf.

She gets to go from station to station to sell a book.

To my knowledge, she has not been detained and thrown in jail without a trial. On the contrary, Naomi is making money and getting to speak everywhere without any intervention by "Bush's secret police".

At some point, responsible liberals need to stand up and put down people like Naomi Wolf.

Yes, we can disagree. Making a connection between Hitler fascism, and any US president, is so insane that it makes me sick.

We are not losing our freedoms. In fact, it is people like David Horowitz and former AG Gonzalez who are losing their freedoms when leftist mobs rush the stage and do not allow them to speak.

Where is Naomi on those fascist tactics?

Naomi Wolf has not lost her freedom to write a book, go on TV and call Bush a Hitler! Again, her book has not been banned by evil Bush.

February 2010: Why would anyone oppose a Mother Theresa stamp?

Image result for mother teresa stamp images

A post from February 2010:

We learned that the US Post Office will issue a Mother Theresa stamp this year. (USPS)

That's great!

Is there a more beautiful historical figure than Mother Theresa?

Nevertheless, some people objected to the new issue. (
Atheist Group Blasts Postal Service for Mother Teresa Stamp)

I guess that some people are just a bit too tense about this "separation of church and state" stuff.

It's true that Mother Theresa was a nun and a very religious woman.

It's also a fact that she opposed abortion. (My guess is that this is what drives the left crazy!)

At the same time, she was a woman who fought poverty head on!

What government program has matched Mother Theresa's work of love and compassion?

The US Post Office is not promoting religion with this special issue. Instead, it is remembering one of the greatest citizens of the 20th century.

Some people need to chill out, get some fresh air and appreciate Mother Theresa's wonderful contributions to mankind!

June 2009: Yes, it's time to believe in Ron Washington and the '09 Rangers!

Team Pres. Nolan Ryan, Owner Tom Hicks, GM Jon Daniels and everyone at the Rangers' office must be thrilled with the 2009 Rangers.

Today, they extended Manager Ron Washington's contract for another year.

Winning means contract extensions! It also means bigger crowds!

First, the Rangers are 33-23 and leading the LA Angels by 4 games.

Second, the Rangers own the sports pages. The Stars and Mavs did not do anything this spring. And everybody is still furious with the way that the Cowboys quit on the last game of the season!

 post from June 2009:

Welcome to the Texas Rangers, a young team that has a lot of good young players!

What's going on with these young Rangers? The answer is pitching and the incredible development of Nelson Cruz!

Cruz came here in 2006 when we got Carlos Lee from Milwaukee. Cruz was added to the trade and spent much of 2006-07 in AAA. Last year, he destroyed AAA pitching and came up in September.

Cruz is destroying a lot of major league pitching. He has 17 homeruns and has stepped in for Josh Hamilton, currently on the DL.

Cruz is getting a lot of RBI chances because of Ian Kinsler (15 HRS for a lead off hitter) and Michael Young, (.338 and headed for another 200 hit season).

So far, so good.

We know that 56 games is not the full season. There are still 106 games left. Baseball is a marathon. Crazy things always happen in the last 50 games!

Put me down as a believer. The Rangers will be playing for the AL West in late September!
