Those ‘crazy’ people arrested in communist countries
As a kid growing up Cuban in the U.S., I remember hearing stories of how the Castro regime would call you “crazy” and throw you in jail. It happened to 20-something Cubans who wanted to listen to The Beatles, for example, and to others who wanted to watch Western films like La Dolce Vita. (For more on this, you may want to read Against All Hope by Armando Valladares.)
It’s an old lefty trick: to shut down political debate by simply calling you crazy.
In fact, it happened in the USSR, too, as I saw last year in this article:
In 1963, Russian poet Joseph Brodsky was seized and sent to a mental institution. At his trial the following year, authorities charged the 24-year-old with “social parasitism” and called him a “pseudo-poet in velveteen trousers.” He had failed to “fulfill his constitutional duty to work honestly for the good of the motherland.”“Who has recognized you as a poet? Who has enrolled you in the ranks of poets?” asked the judge.“No one,” Brodsky replied. “Who enrolled me in the ranks of the human race?”Brodsky was committed to a mental institution for examination, where he spent three weeks. Hospital workers pumped him with tranquilizers and repeatedly woke him during the night. He was given cold baths and wrapped in wet canvas that shrank and cut his skin while drying.Years later when Brodsky was being considered for exile, officials examined his mental health records. They consulted leading Soviet psychiatrist Andrei Snezhnevsky, who, without personal examination, diagnosed Brodsky with “sluggishly progressing schizophrenia.” The poet was “not a valuable person at all and may be let go.”

I am not suggesting that the Democrats want to create gulags. I am simply saying it is playing with fire to have mental health professionals call someone “crazy” without ever seeing the patient or to have partisans talking about the 25th Amendment.
The “Hillary was robbed” story has gone from “she won the popular vote” to “the Russians did it” to now “Trump is crazy.”

2006: Cindy Sheehan needs to go away
This is a post from 2006:
In many ways, I feel sorry for Cindy Sheehan. She lost her son, a modern day hero who died fighting a noble cause in Iraq. Her son volunteered to serve in the military. By all accounts, her son was a good soldier.
Secondly, Sheehan has lost her mind. She is a disgrace.
On Tuesday night, Cindy was in the House gallery as a congresswoman's guest. She was eventually removed because of a T-shirt.
Cindy, and her radical lefty friends, are now accusing the Bush administration of censorship and every other "ism" in the language.
Sad to watch!

This is a lot about nothing. Iran is building a nuclear reactor, ex-VP Gore is speaking a lot of nonsense in Saudi Arabia, and retail sales are way up in January.
What does the media want to go crazy about? The Cheney accidental shooting?

A word from Professor Alan Dershowitz
This is a good message:
Attorney Alan Dershowitz blasted opponents of President Trump for bringing up the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.This is very wise counsel.
The Harvard Law School professor emeritus, a lifelong Democrat, said that the amendment was created to be a mechanism by which an incapacitated president could be removed from office.

We will never know for two reasons:
First, Senator McCain ran against Senator Obama; and,
Two, the banking crisis in October 2008 made it very difficult for Senator McCain.
Nevertheless, it looked like McCain would beat Clinton 12 years ago.

We read today that Ecuador may kick out Julian Assange from its embassy in London. This is the report:
Foreign Minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa told reporters Ecuador was "considering and exploring the possibility of mediation" to end the five-year impasse.We will see. I would not be surprised if Ecuador kicks Assange out. What is the point of having this guy at their embassy anyway? What are they getting out of this?
She said: "No solution will be achieved without international cooperation and the cooperation of the United Kingdom, which has also shown interest in seeking a way out."
A very early look at the US Senate in 2018
We will keep an eye on the US Senate races in November.
According to Eric Branner, the states most likely to change party are Nevada, Missouri, Arizona, Indiana, West Virginia, North Dakota, Ohio, Montana, Wisconsin and Florida.
If Mr. Branner is correct, the GOP would gain 8 seats! That would be quite a night!

Yet, the most memorable line was when he warned us about imported oil:
"America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world."We need to break our dependence on Middle East oil. I heard President Nixon say the same thing in '73 but no one has done anything about it.
So, the President is right in calling for alternative energy sources.
The Democrat response was pretty good in style but not in substance. Gov. Kaine is a very attractive New Democrat. He opposes abortion and same sex marriage. I like his comments on partisanship. He should send them to Sen. Kennedy!
Good speech, specially the emphasis on reducing our dependence on imported oil.
P.S. "Hannity & Colmes" invited Rudy Guliani and Hailey Barbour to review the speech. I insist that this is a possible 2008 ticket: Guliani-Barbour!
