And the media tells us that the GOP is angry and divided?

(My new American Thinker post)

Terry McAuliffe won in Virginia but that's not what Senate Democrats were talking about this morning when they said "good morning" at the elevators.
Instead, they went over to the White House and told President Obama and VP Biden what they think of the web site, their management skills and that promise to "keep their own insurance".

According to news reports, it went like this:

"The two hour meeting comes as the Obama administration and congressional Democrats work to assess the political fallout from the health care overhaul's troubled implementation.
Lawmakers passed on the frustration expressed by their constituents and the White House walked through their steps to repair the program.
"The American people are frustrated with the White House's botched rollout of the Affordable Care Act, and I am too," said Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor, one of the chamber's most vulnerable Democrats.
"In today's meeting, I told the President and Vice President three things:

1) fix the website immediately
2) address the problems with the law and
3) hold the individuals in charge accountable for these mistakes.

I won't let up until these problems are fixed.""

The real story from Virginia's election is that ObamaCare has hit the fan and every "red state Democrat" knows that it won't be pretty defending their votes.

Maybe the young and healthy will all sign up for Obamacare at the last minute

(My new American Thinker post)

First, it was "death panels."  I think that has something to do with bureaucrats deciding who lives and dies.

Now, we hear about "death spirals," or what happens when healthy young people stay home and the older, sicker ones sign up for ObamaCare.

Peter Ferrara believes that the "death spiral" has begun:
"Even worse, the soaring premiums on the Obamacare Exchanges were calculated by health insurers on the assumption that the individual and employer mandates would succeed in forcing everyone to buy health insurance, the healthy and low cost as well as the sick and high cost.
But with 93 million Americans, more than half of everyone with health insurance pre-Obamacare, losing their health coverage under Obamacare, and facing the incentives described above, the covered health insurance pool will not come remotely close to covering everyone, with the healthy, younger, and low cost being exactly the ones to drop out, and evade the mandates.
The pool the insurers end up covering, then, will be a lot more like the pool of all burnt down houses for fire insurers discussed above.
The premiums the insurers receive from this adversely shrunken pool will not remotely cover the costs of that pool.
Hence they will be facing bankruptcy next year, absent another taxpayer bailout of hundreds of billions.
So the choice will be that, or socialized medicine, including the government death panels we see in every other country weighed down by this "enlightened" last century albatross."
Let's hope that the young and healthy make time to show and fill out their application. The Obama team is certainly hoping for that.

Will the young go up to the plate, pay higher premiums and take one for the Obama team?  We will know soon.

Better than that, let's hope that they vote next November to throw each and everyone of these Democrat Senators who voted for this nightmare!

The Cubanization of Venezuela: “La bola pica y se extiende”

(My new Babalu post)
We Cubans have a lot of great expressions. One of my favorites is "la bola pica y se extiende". It means something like "its complicated" and there is no solution around the corner.
For months, our friends at Babalu have been telling you about the "Cubanization" of Venezuela.  Let's add one more episode to that very tragic and sad story.
"Driving the crisis in health care are the same forces that have left Venezuelans scrambling to find toilet paper, milk and automobile parts. Economists blame government mismanagement and currency controls set by the late President Hugo Chavez for inflation pushing 50 percent annually.
The government controls the dollars needed to buy medical supplies and has simply not made enough available."
It gets worse, or "se pone peor la cosa":
"Almost everything needed to mend and heal is in critically short supply: needles, syringes and paraffin used in biopsies to diagnose cancer; drugs to treat it; operating room equipment; X-ray film and imaging paper; blood and the reagents needed so it can be used for transfusions.
Last month, the government suspended organ donations and transplants. At least 70 percent of radiotherapy machines, precisely what Gonzalez will need once her tumor is removed, are now inoperable in a country with 19,000 cancer patients - meaning fewer than 5,000 can be treated, said Dr. Douglas Natera, president of the Venezuelan Medical Federation.
"Two months ago we asked the government to declare an emergency," said Natera, whose doctors group is the country's largest. "We got no response."
The Associated Press sought comment from Health Minister Isabel Iturria but her press office did not respond to repeated interview requests."
This is life in Venezuela.  It is a daily grind of shortages, censorship and "Cubanization".
