"Same sex marriage" puts Pres BO at odds with fellow Dems

"Same sex" marriage is one of those issues that tears up the voting blocs of the Dem party.

First, most Americans are opposed to same sex marriage.  You can see it every time that the issue is put to the voters.   30 states have voted to make marriage between a man and a woman.

I know that there are some polls showing a 50-50 split on same sex marriage.  Those polls are worthless because the issue is decided at the state level.   The states will continue to decide this issue unless some homosexual version of "Roe v Wade" is decided by The Supreme Court.

Speaking of states, this issue is "radioactive" in 7 key states in 2012:  North Carolina, Florida, Colorado, Nevada, Iowa, Missouri and Ohio.
What do these have in common?  The have large rural areas where very religious voters will punish Pres BO over "same sex marriage".  (Just ask VP Gore when he got nailed in all of these states over "gun control" in 2000)

"Same sex marriage" energizes Hollywood, "gay donations" or left wing college professors.  It may even earn Pres BO another Nobel Peace Prize.

However, "....A full embrace of gay rights has never been a winner in the political arena.

Second, Blacks, Latinos and "blue collar Dems" are opposed to it also.  This is a big chunk of the Dems' voting base.   ("African-Americans voted 2-1 in favor of the North Carolina amendment banning gay marriage Tuesday...")

Pres BO will keep the black vote but will Catholic Latinos turn out?

We saw earlier how Catholic bishops read letters opposing the BO-Care mandates.  We are already hearing that Catholic bishops will take another stand on same sex marriage.

Will Catholic Latinos listen to the bishops or Pres BO?

Why did Pres BO accept "same sex marriage" this week?  He had no choice after VP Biden put the issue on the front page.  He could no longer "evolve" because the "gay base" was threatening to stop funding his campaign.  (We repeat: ""about one in six of Obama's top campaign 'bundlers' are gay . . .""

At the end of the day, this is a big gift for Gov Romney.  "Same sex marriage" defines Pres BO as further to the left and that's not a good place to run for reelection.

P.S. Correction: My friend Jerome Bailey reminded me that VP Gore won Iowa in 2000.  So I made a mistake.  Gore won Iowa.

We discussed "same sex marriage" in our Thursday night show:
