Super Bowl: Great game, angry Giselle, Madonna and "here we go" was a great commercial!

It was a great game.  It went down to the 4th quarter.  The Patriots had a chance to win the game......it was great.

I feel bad for Tom Brady because the NE receivers dropped 2 passes in the last drive that could have changed the score.  At the same time, that's football....stuff happens to the best of players.....again that's the game.

Let me congratulate both teams for a great game.  I'm not surprised that the game got huge ratings.  It was a great game for those of us who did not have a 'dog" (or a "cowboy") in this fight.

Let me share a few thoughts:

1) What was Giselle Brady doing when she unloaded about her husband's teammates:  Gisele rips Patriots receivers for husband Brady's Super Bowl loss

I understand your pain but they didn't drop your husband's passes intentionally.  We don't need garbage like this from an angry wife.

2) I skipped Madonna and went to the computer to check the latest numbers from Nevada.  Sorry but Madonna does not do anything for me.

3) The commercials were OK....nothing spectacular.....I did like the one about the dog that kept going to the refrigerator for beer.  I liked that one.

Congratulations to both teams because it was a great game.  I'm sorry that someone had to lose but someone has to lose.

Hispanics can not be happy that Pres BO declared war on Catholic principles

From the day that the Pilgrims landed in North America, the US has been a country that respects and encourages religious diversity.

You can see that every Sunday in our area.

Go south on Josey Lane and you will lots of Christian churches, St Catherine of Sienna (our Catholic church), a synagogue and a mosque.  You will see people practicing their faith without the influence of government.

The churches are more than a weekend gathering.  They participate in the community, from helping the needy to teaching young people valuable principles.  They sponsor youth sports, fundraisers and the kind of stuff that makes us a vibrant and strong community.

Of course, this is why the Founding Fathers insisted in the First Amendment to the US Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The Founding Fathers were very clear: No state or official religion in the US.

It is no accident that the Founding Fathers insisted that these were our first guarantees plus the right to defend yourself, family and property (2nd amendment).

The Founding Fathers understood history.  It is no accident that these were the first guarantees that The Founding Fathers put on the US Constitution.  Again, The Founding Fathers understood history and how dictators close newspapers, shut down Christian schools and take your guns away.  (Talk to my parents about Cuba)

This is why so many of us are angry about the HHS mandates that will force Catholic hospitals and charities to choose between "funds" and their principles:

"The decision to require Catholic hospitals to provide contraceptives and abortifacients they deem immoral in their insurance plans, demonstrates either President
Obama’s personal antagonism to religious liberty — or the degree to which he is beholden to the secular left."  (Lewis)

The Obama administration is making two mistakes here:

1) They are making the case against BO-Care.   In other words, this is what happens when you have a "one size fits all" approach.   This is the best reason to keep our private insurance and let individuals, not government, make choices.

2) Hispanics are a very large part of the Catholic Church in the US.  They are a very conservative, pro-family and anti-abortion segment of the population.  Hispanics are painfully learning that they voted for "change" and got hostility toward their faith.

P.S. We discussed this with Bill Katz on Sunday night:

Newt Gingrich sounded very desperate in that Saturday night press conference

As we've posted before, I like all of these candidates.

I've followed Gingrich since the late 1970s and Santorum since he upset an incumbent and won a Senate seat in Pennsylvania.

I am supporting Romney because he is the most conservative candidate who can win.....and this is about winning and changing the White House.

On Saturday night, we saw the best and the worst of Newt Gingrich.

We saw a man who understands big issues, such as the threat from Iran and presents conservative ideas correctly.

We also saw a man who can't deal with reality, i.e. he has done poorly in 4 of 5 states.   South Carolina is starting to look a lot like an aberration.

We hear that he is losing because of Romney's negative ads.  We don't hear that it's a bit more complicated than that, or the reality that Gingrich never put together an organization.

So we move on.....it looks like Gingrich is desperately trying to hang in there.....he may go on for a few more weeks but it's sad to watch a good man who can't see the truth.

It's time for Gingrich to quit and become the "ideas man" that we love so much.

I'm still a bit confused about the jobs report

We are very happy that many Americans found work last month.  Again, I want people working because that's good for them and the US economy.

However, we repeat that the "jobs numbers" were good but confusing.

John Crudelle posted an interesting column over the weekend: Rosy report a ruse

"Some day, the government is going to put out a good economic report and I’ll be able to say, “Yeah, that really is a good report.”  This isn’t that day."

Indeed, this is not the day.

Barry Casselman, The Prairie Editor, added his thoughts to the jobs report:

"Speaking of the curious, which may also be a form of political outrage,
the latest unemployment figures claim that the number of unemployment in the workforce is down a bit to 8.3%. At the same time, 1.2 million persons who were out of work were declared non-existent because they were so disheartened that they were no longer “seeking” employment.

This unilateral gambit is so transparent that it borders on the absurd.
Yet most in the media, all of the Democrats, and even many Republicans
made no effort at objection at this statistical fraud. That includes most of
the Republican aspirants for president.

If it weren’t for the Congressional Budget Office, Robert Samuelson and Rush Limbaugh, most would not even know this outrage was taking place.

If the Obama administration can get away with making the public believe
real unemployment (somewhere between 10% and 12%) is only 8.3%, they will soon be declaring there is no deficit."

Again, we are happy that more Americans are working.  I am also willing to accept that the economy is improving.  I am also convinced that the real unemployment number is not 8.3% and that it will go up later this year.
