Cole Hamels to Cubs....

The Rangers traded Cole Hamels to the Cubs.

This is the story:

The Chicago Cubs acquired left-hander Cole Hamels from the Texas Rangers on Friday for two minor league pitchers and a player to be named later.

The Cubs also received cash considerations from the Rangers.

Texas acquired right-handers Eddie Butler and Rollie Lacy in the trade. Butler, 27, is 1-1 with a 4.08 ERA in eight appearances for the Cubs this season and 0-3 with an 8.10 ERA in five starts at Triple-A Iowa.

Lacy, 23, is 5-2 with a 2.45 ERA in 18 appearances (12 starts) in two levels of the Cubs' system. He is currently with the Cubs' high-A team in Myrtle Beach.

We will soon find out about the "player to be named later", I guess.

The deal makes sense for both sides.

The Cubs got a starter for the pennant stretch.  Chicago is 2.5 games ahead of Milwaukee in the NL Central.

The Rangers get a couple of young pitchers who could be a part of the 2019 or 2020 rotation.  As I hear, Butler will join the Rangers and Lacy goes down to the minors.

Hamels came here in 2015.  He clinched the AL West with a complete game victory over the Angels.  He pitched well in the 2015 post-season but could not overcome those errors by Andrus.  He did not pitch well in the 2016 post-season.

We wish Hamels the best.  He is a really good guy and I hope that the Cubs go far this year.
