April 12, 1945: FDR died and Truman became president




President Franklin Delano Roosevelt died of a cerebral hemorrhage in his home at Warm Springs, Georgia, on this day in 1945.   A bit later, VP Truman became the 33rd president of the US.

By April 1945, the European War was going well.   Unfortunately, the Pacific War was entering its most savage period.    President Truman eventually dropped the two atomic bombs in August 1945.
