1865: General Lee surrenders

The costly and bloody US Civil War ended today in 1865:
"Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrenders his army to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia.
The war ended but reconciliation and reconstruction proved to be difficult.    A week later, President Lincoln was assassinated.     Nevertheless, April 1865 was one of the most important months in US history.

We remember today all of the honorable men who served on both sides.
