We remember Elvis Presley (1935-77)

Elvis Presley was born on this day in 1935 and died in 1977.  He would have been 82 today.

Without question, Elvis Presley was the most successful US recording star of the 20th century.

He started out selling 45's, then LP's, then cassettes, then CD's and now you can watch on DVDs.

Elvis' career can be divided into several chapters.

First, the early rocker days, i.e. "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock".  This is my favorite chapter.

Second, the early 1960's or the silly movies period.  Frankly, I don't care too much for that.

Third, the great comeback of 1969 when he became the # 1 attraction in Las Vegas.  He recorded some big hits and put on amazing concerts.

Fourth, and finally, the post-death exploitation and I can do without that.

The bottom line is that Elvis has no equal.  He put rock music on the radio and opened the door for everything that followed.

A few years ago, RCA released "30 # 1 hits", a very summary of his best sellers.     Frankly, I love most of his music, except for a few songs from the 1960's movies.    My real favorites are "Hound dog", "It's now or never", "I want you I need I love you"and "American Trilogy".
