1965: "Yesterday" was # 1 this week

Back in September 1965, The Beatles released "Yesterday".    In a month, it was # 1 on Billboard USA.   By the way, the B-side was Ringo singing "Act naturally", an old country song with Ringo in lead vocals.

"Yesterday" was included in the UK "Help" album and later "Yesterday and Today" in the US.   It is currently available in a CD version and it sounds great!

It was a strange recording because Paul was the only one one in the studio.  It is Paul singing, playing guitar and backed up by strings directed by George Martin.

"Yesterday" is probably the best known Lennon-McCartney composition.

It's been recorded by hundreds of artists and in various languages.

Speaking of Beatles' songs, I found this book just great to read the story of all of their songs.   It is a must for any Beatles' fan!
