June 14, 1965: Jim Maloney’s bad luck day

167056

Jim Maloney was a very good major league pitcher.  He broke with Cincinatti in 1960 and become one of the best right handers in the National League.  He won 134 games with a 3.19 ERA.   He won 89 games over a five year span, 1963-67.
On June 14, 1965, Maloney pitched one of his greatest games but did not get a decision:  10 innings, no hits but left with a 0-0 score!
Maloney pitched a no-hitter later against the Cubs and won 20 games in 1965.  Injuries kept Maloney from pitching in the Reds’ championship teams of the 1970s.
Maloney was elected to the Reds’ Hall of Fame.
