Tet was a huge Viet Cong defeat. The US forces fought back and defeated the incoming forces. Unfortunately, the Viet Cong took over the US embassy and it became a huge media event back home.
Tet destroyed the Johnson presidency. It broke the back of public opinion as more and more Americans began to question the war and casualties.
