Is it really 21 years that Clarence Thomas was confirmed?

It's hard to believe but Clarence Thomas was confirmed 21 years ago:

"After a bitter confirmation hearing, the U.S. Senate votes 52 to 48 to confirm Clarence Thomas to the U.S. Supreme Court."

Thomas was nominated by Pres Bush to replace the retiring Justice Marshall.  I remember the news conference when Pres Bush introduced him to the nation.  Thomas' story was wonderful and seemed like a great choice.

Unfortunately, Thomas ran into the liberal establishment.  The left threw everything at him, including a Miss Anita Hill who became a celebrity with her vulgar allegations.

At the end, Thomas was confirmed but the country suffered.  Thomas is  a great man and did not deserve what he got on his way to the Supreme Court.  Thomas did learn that it is tough to be a black or Hispanic conservative in the US.  (Remember the way that the Dem Senators treated Miguel Estrada)
