A few days ago, I read that a couple of my favorites celebrated a birthday this month.
Judy Collins just turned 73 and Mary Hopkin is incredibly 62.
Judy Collins and Mary Hopkin were soft rock singers. They recorded some very nice songs, specially Judy Collins who was still recording in the 1990s.
So let's wish them a happy birthday and recall some of their nice songs.
Judy Collins recorded a lot of folk and almost country tunes. Her voice was beautiful. She recorded "Sometime soon", still my favorite version of this song. Her performance of The Beatles' "In my life" is fabulous.
Mary Hopkin was a gorgeous Welsh young woman who had big hits like "Those were the days". She was only 18 when she recorded this song! She also recorded "Knock knock", a nice bouncy song. Wonder what she looks like at age 62? I think that many of us school boys had a "10th grade crush" on her years ago.
Happy birthday:
"There's a young man that I know whose age is twenty-one
Comes from down in southern Colorado
Just out of the service, he's looking for his fun
Someday soon, going with him someday soon
My parents can not stand him 'cause he rides the rodeo
My father says that he will leave me crying
I would follow him right down the toughest road I know
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon
And when he comes to call, my pa' ain't got a good word to say
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in his younger days
So blow, you old Blue Northern, blow my love to me
He's driving in tonight from California
He loves his damned old rodeo as much as he loves me
Someday soon, going with him someday soon
But when he comes to call, my pa' ain't got a word to say
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in his younger days
So blow, you old blue northern, blow my love to me
He's driving in tonight from California
He loves his damned old rodeo as much as he loves me
Someday soon, going with him someday soon
Someday soon, going with him."

"There are places I remember all my life
Though some have changed
Though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some are gone and some remain
Some are gone and some remain
All these places have their meanings
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life, I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love of something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more...."
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more...."
"Once upon a time, there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours,
Think of all the great things we would do
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way
Then, the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If, by chance, I'd see you in the tavern,
We'd smile at one another and we'd say
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days
Just tonight, I stood before the tavern
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
In the glass, I saw a strange reflection
Was that lonely woman really me?
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days
Through the door, there came familiar laughter
I saw your face and heard you call my name
Oh, my friend, we're older but no wiser
For in our hearts, the dreams are still the same
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days..."

"Tears of rain run down my window pane
I'm on my own again good evening sorrow
Sit and dream of how things might have been
And as I close my eyes I get the strangest feeling
Knock knock who's there Could this be love that's calling
The door is always open wide Knock knock who's there
Now as the night is falling Take off your coat and come inside
Climb the stair and then I say a prayer
For someone who could share my situation
But instead as I lay down my head
I have to leave it all to my imagination
Knock knock who's there Could this be love that's calling
The door is always open wide Knock knock who's there
Now as the night is falling Take off your coat and come inside
La la la la la la la la la La la la la la la la la la la la
Sit and dream of how things might have been
And as I close my eyes I get the strangest feeling
Knock knock who's there Could this be love that's calling
The door is always open wide Knock knock who's there

Take off your coat and come inside....."
