It's "First of May" and another chance to remember one of my favorite, and nicest, songs written by the Brothers Gibb.
Before we discuss the song, we heard the other day that Robin Gibb's condition had improved. We hear that the doctors are stunned because Robin was very close to death just a week ago. This is great news and we hope that Robin recovers completely.
"First of May" is one of my favorite Bee Gees' songs. Barry was the lead vocalist and it was a single from the "Odessa" album. The B-side was "Lamplight", one of Robin's best lead vocals and also from the album.
So we recall a great song and cheer the good news from London about Robin's health.
Click for this great family video that someone posted recently. It's the kind of brotherly stuff that we all remember growing up with. The second is "Lamplight":
"When I was small, and Christmas trees were tall,
we used to love while others used to play.
Don't ask me why, but time has passed us by,
some one else moved in from far away.
Now we are tall, and Christmas trees are small,
and you don't ask the time of day.
But you and I, our love will never die,
but guess we'll cry come first of May.
The apple tree that grew for you and me,
I watched the apples falling one by one.
And I recall the moment of them all,
the day I kissed your cheek and you were gone.
When I was small, and Christmas trees were tall,
do do do do do do do do do...
Don't ask me why, but time has passed us by,
some one else moved in from far away......
we used to love while others used to play.

Don't ask me why, but time has passed us by,
some one else moved in from far away......
"Alons, viens encore, cherie.
J'attendrai patiemment sous la lampe dans la vieille avenue.
Then I may end. She had things to buy. I close my eyes .
J'attendrai patiemment sous la lampe dans la vieille avenue.
Then I may end. She had things to buy. I close my eyes .
Yet I don't know why.
I gave her money; said she knew someone.
And she said she won't be long.
Lamplight keep on burning while this heart of mine is yearning.
Lamplight keep on burning 'till this love of yours is mine.
I sat alone with my thoughts and laughed .
Then saw your face in an old photograph.
I didn't think that I could live without you but what am I to do?
Lamplight keep on burning while this heart of mine is yearning.
Lamplight keep on burning 'till this love of yours is mine
Come home again dear. I have waited year after year
under the lamp in our old avenue.
If all in the world that's laughing, why should it make us cry?"
