The Everly Brothers sold a lot of records in the late 1950's. They stuck around until The Beatles, and all of those British groups, invaded the US pop charts in 1964.
Don and Phil were incredibly influential beyond record sales and pop hits. They set the standard for harmonies and The Beatles & The Beach Boys were among their biggest disciples.
I've always enjoyed their songs. They were great.
Click here for "All I have to do is dream" and "Wake up little Susie", a couple of #1 songs from their huge repertoire:
"Dream, dream dream dream, dream, dream dream dream
When I want you in my arms, when I want you and all your charms
Whenever I want you, all I have to do, is
Dream, dream dream dream
When I feel blue in the night, and I need you to hold me tight
Whenever I want you, all I have to do, is dream
I can make you mine, taste your lips of wine, any time, night or day
Only trouble is, gee wiz, I'm dreamin' my life away
I need you so that I could die, I love you so, and that is why
Whenever I want you, all I have to do, is
Dream, dream dream dream, dream
I can make you mine, taste your lips of wine, any time, night or day
Only trouble is, gee wiz, I'm dreamin' my life away
I need you so that I could die, I love you so, and that is why
Whenever I want you, all I have to do, is
Dream, dream dream ....."
"Wake up, little Susie, wake up Wake up, little Susie, wake up
We've both been sound asleep Wake up, little Susie and weep
The movie's over, its four o'clock And were in trouble deep
Wake up little Susie Wake up little Susie, well
What are we gonna tell your mama
What are we gonna tell your pa
What are we gonna tell our friends
When they say ooh-la-la Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie
Well I told your mama that you'd be in by ten
Well Susie baby looks like we goofed again
Wake up little Susie Wake up little Susie
We gotta go home
Wake up, little Susie, wake up Wake up, little Susie, wake up
The movie wasn't so hot It didn't have much of a plot
We fell asleep, our goose is cooked
Our reputation is shot Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, well
What are we gonna tell your mama
What are we gonna tell your pa
What are we gonna tell our friends
When they say ooh-la-la
Wake up little Susie Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie....."
