1) Teams do not play a balanced schedule; and,
2) You can never predict a 5-game series. Just ask the Phillies who ran into a very hot Cardinals' team!
Speaking of the Yankees, they will watch the World Series on TV again. They've only played in 2 since 2001.....the loss to the Marlins in '03 and their victory over Philadelphia in '09!
It's tough to spend that kind of money and watch the series on TV. Wonder how much longer will the Yankees do it?
Texas (2nd best record) will play Detroit (3rd best record) for a chance to go to the series.
Texas will win if they can pick up 1 of the two Vernlander's starts. In other words, go 1-1 against Vernlander and win 3 of the other 5 games! That's the strategy!
On paper, Texas seems to have the advantage. You can go position by position and the Rangers stack up very well.
However, Detroit has Vernlander, the best pitcher in the AL. He could be the difference and put the Tigers in the World Series. He may pitch 3 games and that's how Bob Gibson developed a post-season reputation a long time ago.
I'm looking for a good and well pitched series. I think that this will be "a battle of the bullpens" and Texas should win that!
Overall, it was a great September for baseball and the first round was outstanding. Best of all, the post season started in September and that's great. I don't want to play baseball in November!
