In a recent post, I related our family's story.
We came to the US in 1964 from Cuba because my wonderful parents did not want their children to grow up in a communist country without freedom and God!
A couple of weeks ago, we had lunch with my friend Nestor who celebrated the 50th anniversary of his "legal" entry to the US.
Over the years, I've joined other immigrants at their "coming to the US anniversaries". They are always emotional and indicative of how much we love that the US adopted us! We also learn about the personal and financial sacrifice that so many made to come "legally" to the US.
We are a nation of laws and legal immigration.
I am living proof of that. My wife and I have 3 sons born here: 2 Texas A&M Aggies and the third one serving proudly in the US Army.
Last night during the GOP debate, someone asked a question about talking to "latinos" in the US. I guess that the questioner thinks that "latinos" have to be spoken to differently than other groups.
A week ago, we saw a Hispanic journalist dragged out to ask a question abut illegal immigration.
What's up with the media that they think that Hispanics are all about immigration?
How should Gov Romney or Gov Perry talk to "latinos" or Hispanics?
The answer is simple. Talk to us as voters not some group uniquely driven by some one's position on immigration.
