Septembers past, back to school and a great new song by The Rolling Stones!

A few days ago, I was driving around and heard "Dandelion" by The Rolling Stones.

It was one of my favorite songs from those "school days" when we collected 45s and kept an eye on the cute girl having lunch in the cafeteria.  (There were lots of cute girls at Madison!)

It seems like only yesterday but it was a lot of years ago.

LBJ was president.  Today, I drive on the LBJ Freeway in Dallas.

Vietnam was divided into North and South, sort of like Korea or Germany.  It was a battleground of the Cold War.

Ronald Reagan was the governor of California.  George Bush was a congressman from Houston. Jack Kemp was an NFL quarterback.

Lombardi coached the Packers to Super Bowl II.  Carl Yaztresmski won the Triple Crown but Boston lost to St. Louis in the World Series.

There were no Brewers in Milwaukee.  (That happened in 1970).  The Bucks were still an idea and Lew Alcindor was at UCLA.  (He played his first game with the new Bucks in '69)

Back to that great music: "Dandelion" was actually the B-side of "We love you", a song that many radio stations did not play.  "Dandelion" was one of the most interesting songs from the Stones.

Click here for the song.  I always loved the ending of the song, specially Charlie Watts' drums:

"Prince or pauper, beggar man or thing
Play the game with ev'ry flow'r you bring
Dandelion don't tell no lies Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries Blow away dandelion
One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock, four o'clock chimes
Dandelions don't care about the time
Dandelion don't tell no lies Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries Blow away dandelion, blow away dandelion
Tho' you're older now its just the same
You can play this dandelion game
When you're finished with your childlike prayers
Well, you know you should wear it
Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailors lives
Rich man, poor man, beautiful, daughters wives
Dandelion don't tell no lies Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries Blow away dandelion, blow away dandelion
Little girls, and boys come out to play
Bring your dandelions to blow away
Dandelion don't tell no lies Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion, blow away dandelion....."
