You can't run out the clock and that's why baseball is still the most unpredictable of all the games.
We love the other sports but you can kill time in the NFL and run down the clock.
You can't do that in baseball. You have the get the last out and that leaves the window open for the late inning magic that we saw on Wednesday night.
First, there were 8 games with post-season implications.
Half of them were about positioning, such as the #2 or #3 seed in the first round. (Texas and Milwaukee won and picked up #2. They will start the LDS at home.)
The other four games were about survival: Win or go home! The Cardinals and Rays will move on but the Braves & Red Sox took the dreaded flight home!
Thanks to ESPN, we got to watch everything, from the Red Sox blowing a 1-run lead with two outs in the 9th to the Rays hitting line drive home runs that just went over the fence!
It was remarkable.
My guess is that you will see some big changes in Boston because they invested a lot of money and got nothing for it.
At one point, Boston was called the best team in baseball. They didn't play like it in September.
