UK and the 2nd amendment: What if London's shop owners had guns to defend themselves?

We saw recently a guy go crazy in Norway and shoot people at will.  Unfortunately, there was no one around to shoot the madman and stop the killing.

We are watching London burning, from looting to punks stealing rings from ladies' fingers.  Again, there was no one around to shoot the mobs or drive them away.

Welcome to a world where only the bad guys have guns.

Nile Gardiner has a great post about this.  Frankly, I can't believe that it took this long for someone in the UK to write about this:

"During the Los Angeles riots in 1992, many store owners in the south central part of the city defended their property against marauding gangs with their own weapons, and succeeded in protecting their livelihoods and thousands of jobs that depended on them.

And across the country, Americans admired their bravery, thankful for the Second Amendment to the US Constitution which protects their right to keep and bear arms, and thereby defend themselves, their families and their property.

In contrast in London in 2011, shopkeepers were left at the mercy of feral, brutal thugs acting with impunity across whole swathes of the capital as the police were overwhelmed.

If they had the right to bear arms and defend their stores with force, it would have been a very different story, and brutal looters would have met firm resistance."

Again, The Founding Fathers got this one right when they put the 2nd amendment in the US Constitution.

Do you want to see what happens when people can't defend themselves? Look at the scenes in London!

According to Gardiner, the UK has very strict gun laws.  However, the bad guys can find them but the honest citizens are denied weapons for self defense.

Obviously, the London riots have raised a lot of issues about the UK welfare state, the underclass and "multiculturalism".  Nevertheless, we are watching on our TV screens how mobs can take advantage of good people who can't defend themselves.
