Louis Armstrong is one of the greatest performers ever. I've always enjoyed his unique style as a vocalist and instrumentalist. He was born 110 years ago today!
Click and listen to a couple of his arrangements of very popular international songs.
I am not a fan of English versions of foreign songs. However, Armstrong did a fabulous job with these popular tunes.
The first one is "I get ideas" ("Adios muchachos") and the second is "La vie en rose":
"When we are dancing And you're dangerously near me
I get ideas, I get ideas.
I want to hold you So much closer than I dare do.
I want to scold you 'Cause I care more than I care to.
And when you touch me and there's fire in every finger
I get ideas, yes I get ideas.
And after we say goodnight and then you linger
I kinda think you get ideas too.
Your eyes are always saying The things you're never saying.
I only hope they're saying That you could love me too.
For that's the whole idea, it's true,
The lovely idea
That I'm falling in love with you...."
"Hold me close and hold me fast The magic spell you cast
This is la vie en rose
When you kiss me heaven sighs And tho' I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose
When you press me to your heart I’m in a world apart
A world where roses bloom
And when you speak...angels sing from above
Everyday words seem...to turn into love songs
Give your heart and soul to me And life will always be
La vie en rose ...."
