Terribly sad songs!

Songs and lyrics come in all shapes and styles.  You have songs that make you happy or nostalgic for earlier days.  You have songs that inspire and make you feel good about the world.

You also have songs that make you sad and touch you deep inside.  These are my "favorite" sad tunes.

The first song is Skeeter Davis singing "The end of the world".  It started out as a country hit but quickly went to the pop charts too.  It continues to get a lot of airplay on the radio even though Skeeter Davis died in 2004.  It was her biggest hit and still resonates with the "brokenhearted".  This is my "vote" for the saddest song ever recorded:

"Why does the sun go on shining? Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don't they know it's the end of the world,
'Cause you don't love me any more?
Why do the birds go on singing? Why do the stars glow above?
Don't they know it's the end of the world.
It ended when I lost your love.
I wake up in the morning and I wonder,

Why everything's the same as it was.
I can't understand. No, I can't understand,
How life goes on the way it does.
Why does my heart go on beating? Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world.
It ended when you said goodbye.
Why does my heart go on beating? Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world.
It ended when you said goodbye."

The second video is The Walker Brothers and "The sun ain't gonna shine anymore".  They were not really brothers and had most of their big hits in the UK rather than the US.  This is a song about loneliness or the kind of an emptiness that comes with a broken heart:

"Loneliness Is a Cloak You Wear
A Deep Shade of Blue Is Always There
The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore
The Moon Ain't Gonna Rise in the Sky
The Tears Are Always Cloud in Your Eyes
When Your Without Love - Baby
Emptiness Is a Place You're In
With Nothing to Lose But no More to Win

The sun ain't gonna shine anymore......
Lonely, Without You Baby
Girl I Need You I Can't Go On
The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore'

The third video is Marie Osmond singing "Paper Roses" with a very nice country flavor.  This is a very popular song that has been recorded by several artists, including Anita Bryant who had a huge hit in the early 1960s.  I guess that this is a song about deception, such as finding out that your special person is not so real after all:

"I realize the way your eyes deceived me
With tender looks that I mistook for love;
So take away the flowers that you gave me
And send the kind that you remind me of.
Paper Roses Paper Roses
Oh how real those roses seem to be!
But they're only imitation
Like your imitation love for me.

I thought that you would be a perfect lover
You seemed so full of sweetness at the start;
But like a big red rose that's made of paper
There isn't any sweetness in your heart.

Paper Roses Paper Roses
Oh how real those roses seem to be!
But they're only imitation
Like your imitation love for me."

The fourth video is The Bee Gees singing 'How can you mend a broken heart".  This is one of the greatest songs written and performed by Barry, Robin & Maurice, the legendary Gibb brothers.  We will call this one the ultimate "brokenhearted song":

"I can think of younger days when living for my life
Was everything a man could want to do.
I could never see tomorrow, I was never told about the sorrow.
And how can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again.
I can still feel the breeze that rustles through the trees
And misty memories of days gone by
We could never see tomorrow, no one said a word about the sorrow.
And how can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again."
