This is another day of 100-plus temps. It is indeed very uncomfortable in the area, specially if you are wearing a business suit and stuck in a traffic jam on LBJ-635 between Central-75 and the Tollway.
The Bush tollway is a bit better but it won't be long before it looks like LBJ!
I have lived in both extremes. I recall minus 25 in Wisconsin and now 100 in Dallas.
I guess that we all get used to our weather. We are practical beings and adjust to nature!
Nevertheless, here is our some tips if you are coming to Dallas:
1) Make sure that your radiator fluids is up to the job. Also, be patient if you get stuck in a traffic jam and the air conditioning unit can not compete with the temperatures.
2) Bring a swim suit and make sure that you know someone with a pool. We do have some public pools such as the Carrollton Recreation Center!
What's a good song for this summer time feeling?
If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, check out "Summertime blues" by Eddie Cochran:
"Well, I'm gonna raise a fuss I'm gonna raise a holler
About a working all summer Just to try to earn a dollar
Well, time I called my baby Try to get a date
My boss says, no dice son You gotta work late
Sometimes I wonder What I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure For the summertime blues
About a working all summer Just to try to earn a dollar
Well, time I called my baby Try to get a date
My boss says, no dice son You gotta work late
Sometimes I wonder What I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure For the summertime blues
Oh, well my Mom and Pappa told me, son
You gotta make some money If you want to use the car
To go ridin' next Sunday Well I didn't go to work
Told the boss I was sick Well you can't use the car
Cause you didn't work a lick Sometimes I wonder
What I'm a gonna do But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
I'm gonna take two weeks Gonna have a fine vacationYou gotta make some money If you want to use the car
To go ridin' next Sunday Well I didn't go to work
Told the boss I was sick Well you can't use the car
Cause you didn't work a lick Sometimes I wonder
What I'm a gonna do But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
I'm gonna take my problem To the United Nations
Well I called my congressman And he said, whoa
I'd like to help you son But you're too young to vote
Sometimes I wonder What I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues"
If you are feeling romantic, or if the summer brought you true love, then check Robin Ward's "Wonderful summer":
The most wonderful summer of my life
It was so heavenly You meant the world to me
And anyone could see that I was so in love
I want to thank you for giving me
The most wonderful summer of my life
I never will forget That summer day we met
You were so shy and yet you stole my heart away
We strolled along the sand Walking hand in hand
Then you kissed me and I knew
That I would love you my whole life through
I want to thank you for giving me
The most wonderful summer of my life
And though it broke my heart That day we had to part
I'll always thank you for giving me
The most wonderful summer of my life "
If you not overwhelmed, or in love, but do enjoy a great summer song, then here is one of my all time favorite songs. It takes me back to high school. I still remember playing the 45 on our basement stereo. This is Sly & The Family Stone and "Hot fun in the summertime":
"End of the spring, And here she comes back.
Hi, hi, hi, hi, there. Well, summer days, Those summer days.
That's when I had most of my fun nights.
Hi, hi, hi, hi, there. Well, summer days, Those summer days.
I'd cloud nine when I want to. Out of school, yeah-eh,
County fair in the country sun, And everything is cool.
Oh, yeah, yeah. Hot fun in the summertime.
Hot fun in the summertime. Hot fun in the summertime.
Hot fun in the summertime.
First of the fall and there she goes back
Bye, bye, bye, bye, there. Them summer days,
Those summer days.
Boop-boop-a-boop-boop when I want to,
Out of school. County fair in the country sun,
And everything is coo-oo-oo-oo-hool.
(Oh, yeah.)
Hot fun in the summertime. (Hey-hey-hey whoo-oo-ooo.)
Hot fun in the summertime. (Oh, yeah.)
Hot fun in the summertime. (Hey-hey-hey whoo whoo.)...."
