Jim Northrup was one of my favorite baseball players!

We just heard that Jim Northrup passed away after a long illness.  He was 71.

Back in 1968, The Detroit Tigers played St Louis in a great World Series.  It went to 7 games.  It featured Bob Gibson and 31-game winner Denny McClain.

However, the series was decided by Mickey Lolich and clutch hitting by Jim Northrup in Game 7.

I remember this series because one of our teachers let us watch the game.  Those were the days when post season games were played in the afternoon and I miss that.

I also remember Northrup with the Orioles in '75.  It was his last year in the majors but he was a great pinch hitter.  He was a fan  favorite because he played hard and would always come through!

Our best to Jim Northrup's family and thanks for so many baseball memories!
