By any historical measurement, Pres BO's immigration speech was one of the most cynical ever delivered by a president.
Unfortunately, too many Hispanics, and specially "mexicanos" are so uninformed about BO and his total disregard for meaningful immigration reform.
Worse than that, Pres BO is working on the assumption that "hispanos" are stupid or willing to believe the "hope and change" rhetoric the second time around.
Slowly, but surely, "hispanos" will learn that BO is a giant fraud on the topic of immigration reform.
In simple terms, BO has never worked seriously to pass any meaningful immigration reform.
For example, what was Sen BO's role in the 2006-07 immigration debate?
Check out Michael Barone:
"In 2007, when such a bill was backed by a lame-duck Republican president and had bipartisan backing from Senate heavyweights Edward Kennedy and Jon Kyl, Sen. Obama voted for union-backed amendments that Kennedy and Kyl opposed as bill killers.
In 2009 and 2010, President Obama acquiesced in Speaker Nancy Pelosi's decision to pass cap and trade and bypass immigration, and in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's decision not to bring an immigration bill to the floor.
Both times the votes were probably there to pass a bill.
Obama did not lift a finger to help."
This is how Mark Slater remembers Sen BO:
"As an aide to McCain, I was in the room for every one of those meetings. It was my first opportunity to observe Obama closely.
During those meetings, I never saw him engage in any discussion concerned with building a majority vote in favor of the legislation.
In the meetings he attended, he would draw from his shirt pocket a 3x5 index card, on which he had written changes he insisted be made to the bill before he would support it.
They were invariably the same demands made by the AFL-CIO, which was intent on watering down or killing the guest-worker provisions.
Republicans and Democrats alike were irritated by his transparently self-interested behavior, but tried to negotiate with him.
He remained adamant in his positions and unwilling to compromise."
Translation: He was carrying the labor unions' water. Why do you think that he closed the border to Mexican trucks within a month of taking over?
Charles Krauthammer has the best description for Pres BO's speech: Demagoguery 101
"Americans are a generous people. Upon receipt of objective and reliable evidence that the border is secure — not Obama’s infinitely manipulable interdiction statistics — the question would be settled and the immigrants legalized.
Why doesn’t Obama put such a provision in comprehensive immigration legislation?
Because for Obama, immigration reform is not about legislation, it’s about reelection.
If I may quote the president: I understand that. That’s politics."
Yes, it was demagoguery!
It was also very cynical or about what we have grown to expect from a man who loves to play "class warfare" rather than govern seriously.
P.S. Pres BO joked about the border fence in El Paso last week. At the same time, he forgot to tell the "yes we can" screamers in the audience that Sen BO voted for the fence!
