Will Pres BO finally go to Congress and explain what we are doing in Libya?

Remember Libya?  Remember that we've been directly and indirectly involved in a military conflict without a congressional resolution?

Remember The War Powers Act?  It was passed in 1973 by a Dem majority to stop future presidents from going to war without the Congress or very unspecific resolutions.

Of course, The WPA was passed because of The Gulf of Tonkin resolution that was used to fight the Vietnam War.  Wonder how many members of Congress voted for The Tonkin Resolution in August 1964 believing that Pres LBJ would use it to send 500,000 troops into Vietnam in '65?

The WPA was the right thing to do.  It gives the president the right to act quickly if necessary but it forces him to go to Congress at some point.

Since the WPA passed in '73, the first Pres Bush got a congressional resolution to fight the Gulf War '91.  The second Pres Bush went to Congress and got resolutions to attack AFghanistan and the Iraq WAr of March '03.

On the other hand, Pres Clinton invaded Haiti, Bosnia and bombed Iraq several times without going to Congress for a resolution.  (Pres Clinton used the cease-fire violation that ended the Gulf War as the legal justification for bombing Iraq often during his two terms)

According to the WPA, Pres BO needs to come to Congress today because the 60 days are up.

This is from ABCPresident Obama's Libya Intervention Hits 60-Day Legal Limit

We will wait and see what happens.

We will wait to see if the left demonstrates and calls on Pres BO to stop invading countries without the Congress.

We will wait for the left to scream that Pres BO is dropping bombs in Pakistan and Yemen.

Once upon a time, the left in the US, and much of the world, was very critical of US presidents who bombed villages and held people indefintely in GITMO.

We will wait and see.  However, don't hold  your breath because that was yesterday (or Bush) and this is today (or Obama).

Conclusion: The left is OK with invading countries and dropping bombs as long as their guy does it!

We spoke about this and other things with Patrick McIlheran of The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:
