Yesterday, I called it "coqueteo". Today, I will go further and call it plain "cynical".
Thankfully, I am not the only one who is reacting negatively to a very cynical speech.
Check this out from Arnold Torres, political consultant on Latino issues:
"“I have never ever heard as much disenchantment—as much frustration, as much disappointment—as I hear from Hispanic voters about Obama this time around.”" (via Goodman)
"As I’ve written elsewhere, the Democrats face a real problem in the next election: Hispanic voter apathy—and speeches, even inspiring ones, won’t change that."
The NY Times, a.k.a "The Obama Re-election News", was not happy either. They want more than just a speech in El Paso. They actually want Pres BO to act:
"To move things forward, Mr. Obama will have to do a lot more. He needs to outline legislation, push Congressional leaders — including those in his own party — to back it and make the case repeatedly to Americans."
Pres BO is once again victim of campaign promises. He told everyone what they wanted to hear in 2008 and now he can't deliver on the promises.
Was he naive? Did candidate BO actually think the pro-union Dems would actually deliver on reform? Again, was he that naive or was he just telling people what they wanted to hear?
One way or another, Pres BO faces very unhappy Hispanic voters. My guess is that they will stay home rather than participate in "Hope and Change" version '12!
