The Mavs will play the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight. By the way, the "Thunder" used to be The Seattle Supersonics!
How will Dallas do? I pick the Mavs in 6.
However, this is not going to be an easy series for the Mavs. In fact, beating OK City is going to be a lot more difficult than beating the hated LA Lakers.
First, will the one-week delay hurt or help the Mavs?
Some say yes (i.e. a whole week off). Some say no (i.e. too much time off!)
We will know the answer quickly. My guess is that the time off will help the older Mavs get over the very emotional series against LA.
Second, everybody will pick Dallas and that will translate into OK City playing under no pressure whatsoever.
Third, OK City has Kevin Durant, a great young player who used to play for The University of Texas. Who is going to cover him?
Fourth, let's not forget that OK City was the 4th seed in the NBA West. Therefore, this is a battle between the "3rd seed Dallas" and the "4th seed OK City". (Just cuious: Have a 3rd & 4th seed ever met for a Conference Final?)
Again, I'm picking Dallas in 6. However, I wouldn't be surprised if OK City wins the series and shocks the world again.
P.S. Check out the Monday show and my conversation with Barry Bellville about the Mavericks:
