Pres BO is off and running for reelection. However, don't expect him to tell a new round of "yes we can" screamers that he is closing GITMO or stopping military trials for terrorists.
That was then. This is now! He was giving speeches then but he is responsible for national security now.
On the contrary, the "anti-Bush of 2008" is going to sound a lot like Bush, i.e. "we will hunt down thugs and terrorists".
Bin Laden's killing has forced a lot of "yes we can" screamers to face reality.
1) GITMO worked and has been a critical asset in getting info and holding terrorists that nobody wanted.
2) Enhanced interrogation is an important tool in getting information from people who blow up bridges and/or fly airplanes into buildings.
I am not suggesting that we should torture at will. However, the president should have the option to approve enhanced interrogations in exceptional situations.
Pres Bush did that and it led us to Bin Laden's compound!
3) It's OK to target, or assassinate, bad guys.
We live in an ugly world. We are at war with very bad people and you can not treat them like bank robbers or wife beaters. We need to kill them whenever we get the chance.

4) It's OK to act alone.
Our priority must be to defend US interests rather than create coalitions for the sake of creating them. Just look at the mess in Libya!
Pres BO will soon start campaigning. However, don't expect to see marches about unilaterally invading a country and killing a man at his home.
Don't expect to see a lot of "impeach BO" signs either.
We will see those marches the next time that a Republican president uses the military to defend the US!
